Rank Snyder's Bowl Wins
« on: January 03, 2017, 09:07:05 AM »
Now, I wasn't really a Cat fan in the early 90s, I was a Casual Cat Fan (CCF) starting in about '97 and pretty serious Cat fan from 2000 on. So the Copper Bowl win, which many point to as one of the biggest, has never really registered as much with with me. That being said, here's my list of Snyder's Bowl Wins.

My criteria is what was the combo of biggest nationally, for the program, and most fun for the fans.

1. Fiesta 97
2. Cotton 2000
3. Copper 93
4. Texas 16
5. Holiday 95
6. Holiday 2002
7. BWW 13
8. Holiday 99

What say you Cat Fans?

I agree with those rankings more or less.  But my word we suck at bowls.  Look at that list.  That's terrible when you look at it ranked like that.

Yeah the 12 Fiesta or 03 Fiesta would def be #1 had we won IMO. Maybe even the Cotton against Arkansas too.

Wasn't holiday 99 like the highest we've ever finished in the rankings?

yeah but we beat an unranked crappy Washington team and needed like a miracle 15 play drive or whatever to do it. If I were ranking the teams it would be higher.

Wasn't it because of the Big XII not wanting to be aligned with the Holiday Bowl when the CFP era started, is what moved us away from this bowl.

Pretty sure you're thinking of the 2002 Holiday Bowl that gave us a #5 finish nationally. We missed out on the BSC to USC, who we even beat earlier in the year. Coincidentally, they jumped us because of the "K-State Rule" that was put in place after not going to a BSC bowl in 98. Obviously blame still falls on bullshit voters who put them ahead in polls, etc.

Given that the 02 Holiday Bowl gave us the high finish I think I'd move it to #4 for now, with possibly adjusting if the Texas bowl ends up being a springboard type win.

IIRC, Texas beat us and also had 2 losses.  Hard to say we deserved it more than USC and UT didn't deserve it more than us.

Yeah the 12 Fiesta or 03 Fiesta would def be #1 had we won IMO. Maybe even the Cotton against Arkansas too.

2012 yes, not the 2003

Anyway

1. Fiesta 97
2. Cotton 2000
3. Copper 93
4. Texas 16
4. Holiday 95
4. Holiday 2002
4. BWW 13
4. Holiday 99

The top three are indisputable and can be ranked however, the others are essentially the same to me, the 2002 Holiday Bowl was our best opponent of those five, Suggs was a complete monster and the best player we faced in any bowl game win or lose.

USC finished with 2 losses and lost the head-to-head, but obviously were very good. UT also lost late to unranked Texas Tech, while our only two losses were to Colorado - who finished season ranked #21/20 and highly ranked Texas.

True. Only reason I had the 95 game higher was it further solidified our status as a program that was going to be good for a long stretch.

Better pro no doubt, but IMO Suggs was a more dominant college player.
