I guess Stan was totally cool when we invaded a sovereign state over misinterpreted (fabricated?) evidence of WMD's and completely destabilized an already volatile region of the world.

I can picture Stan, dax, and Hillary walking a warehouse full of daisy cutters and salivating over all the people they'd get to kill.  Women and children, too.

It's shocking that such a large amount of people were unaware that roughly half of the population of their country disagreed with them on many political and social issues.

I am surprised that I was surprised. Again, though, it's not so much about the "issues" as it is about tacit acceptance or endorsement of people being shitty to each other. I had no idea that people are so okay with that.

You realize obama was extremely and exuberently shitty to about half the country, right? Far worse than any other president ever.  In 6 years he have all 3 branches of government to the pubs he was so shitty.

I am particularly enjoying the illegal immigrants protesting with "not my president" signs. They're right!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

That's the Obama Paradox. He's going to leave office with an approval rating over 50%, but his policies and politics have decimated the Democrat Party.

That's what happens when you are close minded. But you're ok with that and want to continue with your head up your ass. And speaking of people being shitty to each other:

But you don't have to watch, it won't align with your views.

That guy is wearing a KU sweatshirt!! lol... I mean not LOL.  but still...

This article expresses my disappointment better than I can.

Thanks for posting this it felt genuine and heartfelt and helped me understand the fears some people are feeling right now.  We can't dismiss others fears because no matter what you say you can't change that these feelings of fear are very real weather you think they are unfounded or not.

I agree that it is melodramatic. I also think he made some good points. I appreciate his thought that many people are upset because of something that extends beyond politics. And that it is more about things like how we ought to treat each other. For something less melodramatic, see Stan Van Gundy's thoughts.
Sure.  Trump was a brute and a bully throughout his campaign.  It's troubling that that sort of behavior worked to get him elected.

That's said, I don't necessarily think his being elected as a result of that behavior is some American existential crisis.  I imagine plenty of people (most?) voted for him in spite of his antics and rhetoric, not because of them.

You don't think it could be a shock to the system to some people that 50,000,000 in this country thought it was okay to rationalize voting for someone who behaves like he does? He is now the leader of the free world and he just a few months ago stood on a stage and mocked a guy with cerebral palsy. I think it is shocking to some because people, mostly privileged, think the number of people willing to swallow his behavior and allow him to be the most powerful person in the world would be a small fraction of 50,000,000. I think trump is full of crap so I think he will pretty much do what the Republican establishment wants him to do, but I completely understand some people being upset about this many people willing to be okay with Trump's behavior. I consider myself woke so this isn't that surprising to me.
I guess so, but you'd have to be pretty ignorant not to realize, until yesterday, that a large segment of the US population supports trump and DGAF about (or supports) trump's personal behavior.  He pretty much dominated the GOP primary, after all.

Would everyone be as shocked if Trump narrowly lost those battleground states that he won?

Right. I genuinely thought that he only wont he primary because there were so many candidates to chose from. Not because this many people would chose to validate his views and behaviour.

I feel like a lot of the people that are shocked/saddened/disturbed that 50% of the country voted for Trump are failing to realize what a terrible candidate hillary was.  I mean, millions of people who voted for Obama twice either refused to vote for hillary or voted for Trump.  When both presidential candidates are piles of garbage, you are going to have a pile of garbage in the white house.

Trump didn't get enough votes to win most elections. Clinton just performed even worse than he did.

Oh, man. I wonder how many championship sports teams will be boycotting their White House visit while Trump is in office.
