2016 Big 12 Awards
« on: March 06, 2016, 12:55:42 PM »
DJamer should have been HM, but he probably didn't get enough minutes to build his stats.

Wes 3rd team is probably about right.

Dean and Barry all FR is about right, though it will be touted by many as hope for the future.

Few awards = bad team.

Tubby as COB is absurd

Why?  They were projected last in the B12, finishing at .500 in conference is impressive.

6 game improvement and 132 spots in kenpom....

But I would've given it to Huggs.

Shaka took a team ranked 25 in kenpom that returned roughly 50% of it minutes and finished 28 (so far). That is just under status quo.

Tech Jump is unreal. But then you are celebrating a slightly greater than bubble quality team who's best two scorers are seniors. I think it is peak year for them. Although they won't completely crash next year.

Huggins probably made the biggest meaningful jump.

It should be, Dean and Barry aren't the problem.

2015-16 Big 12 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll

    Team (First-place votes)       Points
1.    Kansas (9)*   81
2.    Oklahoma   70
3.    Iowa State (1)   68
4.    Texas   51
5.    Baylor   49
6.    West Virginia   47
7.    Oklahoma State   33
8.    Kansas State   18
    TCU   18
10.    Texas Tech

Big 12   W-L
#1 Kansas   15-3
#10 West Virginia   13-5
#6 Oklahoma   12-6
#23 Texas   11-7
#21 Iowa State   10-8
#19 Baylor   10-8
Texas Tech   9-9
Kansas State   5-13
Oklahoma State   3-15
TCU   2-16

There are different ways to look at it I suppose. Self maintaining a program that consistently wins titles is noteworthy. But I tend to look at who has done the best based on their projections, and Huggs and Tubby both had really good years.

Why should just meeting expectations be rewarded?  He's exceeded them exactly one year because of a lucky shot

If they're expected to win the conference every single year and they do it I think you just answered your own question.

Umm How?  Regardless of expectations, that award should be based on progress.

The argument of unexpected improvement vs maintaining really high levels of success comes up often in COY debates. I'm not sure either answer is wrong or right.

In this year's Big 12 I would pick 1. Huggs 2. Tubby 3. Self.

So every year the conference champion coach should win COY? That seems to be the implication.

What I originally said, which you obviously didn't read.  He exceeded one year, and it was because of a coaches son who made a shot. Disregarding that fact is disingenuous

Right, but what he's done isn't simply meeting some basic expectation.

I disregarded it because you're talking about post season and we're talking about the conference coach of the year. I hired that you would have realized your dumb ass mistake. The conference COY is awarded before the post season starts.

So every year the conference champion coach should win COY? That seems to be the implication.

In most years that makes more sense than some guy who did better than the media thought he would do and usually runs an inferior program to the coach that won the conference.

Part of the implication is that its harder to win at Tech than it is at KU.
