ATTENTION PLAYERS - DO NOT THROW THE TCU GAME!
« on: February 29, 2016, 12:28:04 PM »
Obviously, the temptation will be there to throw the game and get your coach fired and out of your lives forever, and bring in a coach who you will respect and win with.  That's attractive, we get that.

HOWEVER, no one on this internet site will condone willfully throwing games to force the change of head coaches, no matter how bad the head coach is.  This is COLLEGE ATHLETICS.  You, as a student athletes, are here to get an education and learn the values that come with doing as you are told...not to "win" at athletics.

Perhaps you are thinking to yourself that it would be nice to "win," or to have an "inspiring" or "accomplished" collegiate athletic career?  Trust us.  We are older than you, and thus know way better than you, that it is in your best interest to NOT think for yourselves and do as you are told.

RULE OF THUMB:  Ask yourself "how much does the guy who is bossing me around make per year," and the larger that dollar amount is, the more you should avoid even thinking about questioning his authority.  John Currie and oscar Webber make a LOT of money.  Probably a 20 times as much as your parents.  Do what they say!

Remember, this is NOT about YOU!  There is a LOT of money (that is not yours) at stake, and your unwavering compliance is required (but not compensated).

Great point pete, these kids should just listen to their coach and play hard.

i think it'd be ok to throw the game a little.

I'd think faking an injury would be no big deal.  Vulture and other random walk on losers would love to get some real minutes so it is a win-win.  I bet Vulture's parents make good money too so if you go out with a hammy and let him come in and foul/turn the ball over the rest of the night, he would probably buy a bunch of drinks later that evening.

Would throwing this game be good for the basketball program and your future as a basketball player? Almost certainly. But that isn't reason enough to do it. Think about all the implications before you take that step. If, after you've thought about it long and hard, you can't think of anyone that would be negatively impacted by throwing this game (other than oscar Weber who you almost certainly hate and probably is the only person who would personally be negatively impacted) then I guess I can't stop you.

no one can force a man to play if he doesn't wish to.  that's unethical.

Good points.

I suppose most of you have never heard of CCNY (City College of New York). Well, these guys were once the kings of college basketball, winning both the NIT and NCAA titles in 1949. They owned the college basketball world. Well, several years later several CCNY players were caught point shaving and throwing games and the NCAA pretty much destroyed the program. They play DIII now and no one knows who they are.

So I guess what I'm saying, is if you don't want to be playing the likes of Baker and Ottawa in a few years, it would probably be best for our players not to throw the TCU game tomorrow, no matter how bad they might want to.

If you are Wes Westicles, you are probably very tired and might be coming down with something.

You know who isn't tired?  Ted Cruz-faced Roheleder.  He is ready to go

Let's be fair here, I'm pretty sure Rohl is the only player on our roster that has dunked in (or at least at) an NCAA tournament game.

Westicles had that cool dunk vs Kentucky but I see your point :(

I was trying to remember if he or DJamer dunked in their games. I took a chance.

Great thread Pete.  I was literally just thinking that there would be no consequences as there would be no way anybody would ever know.  There is absolutely no risk if the players put their own well being over that of their multi-millionaire coach.  Some people pride themselves on NCAA tournaments and wins but I trust that our team will pride themselves on keeping money rolling in for oscar.  No shame in either choice.

I'm also glad our players do not hold a grudge against a coach that has thrown them under the bus.  If I had a coach that blamed everyone else for his failures, I would almost certainly throw the game.  Especially given how easy it would be to do and the fact that nobody would ever know.

How much does Randolph and Padre factor into how big of hit the play hard chart takes these next two weeks? :bigtoke:

I get the emotion behind the original post and lots of replies. It'd be a shame if any collegiate athlete threw a game. That would speak volumes about their character. My opinion won't matter, but that's a ridiculous way to live life.

It would be embarrassing if a good portion of the team overslept their naps because the iphone alarm isn't very loud.  Embarrassing, but people get over things.

I think if KSU loses, that wouldn't raise any red flags.  If TCU loses, people will probably suspect them of throwing the game.

Especially if they did it in a way that wasn't obvious and that no one would ever find out.  I mean, that would just eat at you, personally, for quite a while.  Especially if it caused oscar to lose his job and a different coach was brought in to try to rectify the situation.

It would cause moments of pause and moments when you look for distraction to keep you mind off of what you did.

As the fans returned to the games and the noise level went up, during those hard thumping Sandstorm moments, when a player can't even hear the player next to them....when a player can feel the chant in their chest....when a player can see players on the opposing team obviously being intimidated by the overwhelmingly harsh environment, that KSU player would have to know, deep down, that they helped cause all this by making that one bad decision, that one time, that only he knows about but has to deal with every time he steps on the court.  Every time CBS interviews him on their upcoming tournament match ups.  Every time he is sitting with his team and new coaches waiting for seed selections on Selection Sunday, while being live streamed across the world.

I just hope that our youngsters make the right decision.
