I've done some in the past and enjoyed it. Thinking about doing some around MHK, has anyone done any here and if so, where? I'm not religious so I probably won't join any churches to do it.

Also if you have done some and want to share this is the place to do it!

I have done habitat for humanity a few times and dig that. Going to get back into it as soon as kids are in middle school. Right now I help out with the coaching for my son's basketball and help out with practices for volleyball, baseball, soccer, and softball. Saturday is full of games for both kids. I really enjoy the coaching a lot for now.

Is habitat for humanity like planting trees and doing outdoorsy stuff? If so I think that would be fun, I love being outside. I have coached at a competitive level before but I didn't like it as much as playing. Maybe teaching fundamentals and stuff would be more fun for me.

My bro did a lot with Boys and Girls Club back in the day and said that MHK has a pretty awesome one. He said he really enjoyed it

It's building houses.

Rotary Club can be fun if you find a good group. Basically meet for lunch with a bunch of old successful guys (usually) and listen to speakers, start projects around community. Basically insert yourself into an old boys club and become cronies with some old dudes.

I was pretty good in wood/metal shop back in the day so habitat for humanity might be fun. I think if I started doing it and knew who it helped it would mean more.

Rotary club doesn't sound like its for me, too much talking. I've done networking groups before and it just feels like empty conversations that never mean much after.

You don't really pick what you do, you show up and do what needs to be done. Lots of it is companies donating labor with their crew.

As easy as this sounds I WILL NOT do that for free. Helping old people with computers requires monetary incentive.

I like food banks. Work in the warehouse can be kind of fun and social depending on the setup and what they have you do.

I've done that at the flint hills bread basket before and I enjoyed it. It was for a class project but it was still fun

Its where you build an enclosure to house some books and erect the "Little Library" somewhere that people can come and engage in a "Take a book, leave a book" exchange. That really would probably fall under "fun projects" more than any lasting volunteering opportunity.

As far as helping the elderly with computer problems, its not as bad as it sounds. Yes, troubleshooting someone else computer issues is a nightmare, no mater how old they are but theres other computer use things they need help with that aren't so bad. When i was in high school, to get some extra volunteering hours i taught classes on computer literacy at the local senior center for a few months. It was a neat experience, there were a couple of folks who got some real use out of it, but the majority of the people were there just to get out and socialize.
