The coin toss thing is beyond stupid. The democratic party should have a rule that a candidate can only gain 1 delegate by coin toss. The next tie should go to the loser of the toss.
Those coin tosses decided county delegates, not the state delegates.
So in my precinct we had 7 county delegates up for grabs. Bernie got 67 votes, Hillary got 47 votes. Somehow using the Iowa Democrats formula Bernie got four of the delegates, Hillary got three (I don't get why it wasn't 5-2 but whatever). If we had a tie then we would have had to toss a coin to decide the 4th county delegate. She won those coin tosses. Ultimately those six coin tosses she won will ultimately result in her possibly getting one more of Iowa's 44 delegate votes at the national convention. I say possibly one because O'Malley's county delegates he won are plenty to move the needle a couple of real delegates in either direction.
All the talk about who won is wholly insignificant, they effectively tied.
