With most people I'd think K-S-U's post was an attempt at humor but with him I'm really not sure

When it comes to pinewood derby, there's three kinds of dads: (1) Dads who don't give a crap and either don't help or do a shitty job; (2) dads who secretly want to win and do most of the work but they know that's not something to be proud of so they keep it low key, and (3) dads who do all the work and don't even bother to hide that they did all the work.

i'm solidly Dad 2. As a Dad 2, I rough ridin' loathe Dad 3s. There's nothing more annoying than those assholes who show up on race day with their little tackle boxes full of gear, custom carrying cases, etc. They don't even let their kids hold the cars. Last year at district, one car had working headlight. I'm not even shitting you. And they're always the same basic profile, aren't they? Some dumpy engineer-type. Hey all you Dad 3s - get mumped. Seriously. Have the decency to at least let the car look like your kid had a modicum of involvement in crafting your pinewood dick substitute.

Aren't there any dads who build the thing with their kid, guiding the build but allowing the kid to do a lot of the work and learning skills in the process?

LPDCIQ here.

You're right - there's probably some of those. Lets call them Dad 1-a's.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

The Derby is Cub Scouts. It's pretty much the only cool thing about Cub Scouts. They only camp once or twice a year.

Pulled out all the stops this year. Wedge, tungsten weights, sanded and polished the wheels, polished the axels, even polished the insides of the wheel hubs with a q-tip. Damned if it didn't work. First place in Pack, onward to District!

Today I am Super Dad 2. I also discovered my wife is a secret Mom 2. She was pacing the floor, monitoring race times from other heats. She leaned in and whispered at one point "I think we've got this." Awesome.
