That style of egg creeps me out to look at. Don't know why.

Two things:

1)  If thousands of people are climbing it, then it can't be that challenging.
2)  Have you lost weight since your move?

In this instance I am serious, yes.

Boston Marathon, organized event, qualify, bla bla, ok that's challenging even though thousands of people are doing it.

But Mount Fuji...

300,000 people climbed it in 2009.  That's not exactly an amount that is exclusive enough to exclude people that aren't in top fitness.  Also, if the kind of people that buy a 100 yen rain cover can climb it, that also speaks to how challenging it isn't.  There are no technical sections, no need for special equipment, belaying, crevasses, etc.  It's a hike, simple as that.

You're right emo, the list of things more difficult is certainly quite long. Everest, k2, Kilimanjaro, childbirth, the FE, a hundred other mountains, some elk thing, you finish the rest.

Did you normalize for the fact that these thousands of people are Japanese people who are tough as crap and cherish suffering?

I had considered that as an unknown but I'm not specifically familiar.  If you told me the failure rate was significant (more than 30 percent [even because of weather]) I'd be willing to reconsider my assessment.  You think the Japanese are tough as crap?  Why?

I do think it's pretty badass to make it a goal to be up there by sunrise.  Americans don't generally do that here, like on 14ers or whatever.
