95% of women are. The other 5% say they're not, but they wish they could be, they're just smart and budget.

Gooch & I don't even buy each other Christmas gifts because our finances are combined so we might as well just buy what we want instead of buying each other something that we probably don't want. It all comes from the same bank account either way.

Actually I'd much prefer a gift that required some thought about something I would like rather than just buying because it is expected.

Need more ideas though so keep them coming Mrs. G.  TIA!

That is really cute. I'm not really into expensive handbags personally, but if someone likes expensive hangbags and the Royals that would be perfect for them.

mrs gooch, rate the all weather floor mats i bought her for Christmas for her new car on a scale of 1 (bad) to 5 (GREAT!).

As long as that is a tiny gift in addition to her real gift, it is fine. If it is the only gift then 1.

tiny gift? wtf son, they were $150.
she has more gifts though (also got her a new iphone lightning cable!) 1-5?

Did she ask for the floor mats or in any way indicate that she wanted them. I guess that makes a big difference.

Also, are your finances combined? That makes a difference too, IMO.

there are things we want in this world, and things we need.
personally, i would rather spend my money on crap i want.  so i prefer that people buy me crap that i need.
we do not combine our finances, can't imagine living in a world like that.
but, we picked up her new car on saturday (ice storm) and it rained the days following. she needed those damn mats.  and now, because of amazon prime 2 day free shipping, and my loving heart, the all weather mats are sitting in her foyer waiting on her to get home from work (she knows that they are there because i went to her house and moved them inside and texted her that they showed up).

it's a Christmas miracle.

That's cool. That was a pretty ignorant statement on my end. I've obviously seeked out the wrong kind of girls in the past.

So you are not giving it to her as a Christmas gift? Well that changes my assessment then I guess.

It is $128 for a 6 inch x 6 inch bag. The cost to size ratio is high. Dooney & Bourke in general are in the expensive handbags category.

Well most people don't give Christmas gifts on December 2. Does she get a gift every day of December? If so, then I rate your gift giving a 7.

I like for people to buy me gifts that are things that I want but probably wouldn't spend the money on - as long as it is not a person I have combined finances with. So that Royals bag would be perfect if someone was buying it with funds that were not shared by me.

I got myself a sweet mixer yesterday.  The attachments on that thing will work wonders in my double-wide trailer.

it would be dumb to let her existing NON-all weather car mats get all messed up over the next three weeks because the date isn't 12/25.
we will be on vacation on 12/25 and won't be doing gifts for each other then, so she's just getting crap when i think of things to get her.
a coffee maker she wanted went on sale a week and a half ago.  showed up last saturday, another Christmas miracle.

Probably not the same girl.

But, to your point, giving her this handbag only led to many years of her being disappointed with my later gifts.

I agree. It would be better if we just gave people gifts when we were thinking about them and saw something that they would like.

OK, fine. Like I said I am not into expensive handbags but when I googled "high end handbags" Dooney & Bourke was one of the results.

Same.  Go shopping with her for other gifts and if your by handbags she will stop and look at them.  Look to see which one she stops at and looks at the price tag, then sighs and continues to move on.  Go back and buy it later if your willing to spend that much.
