WBC Defectors

I've always been fascinated by the Westboro Baptist Church.  The following is a super long article detailing how Megan and Grace Phelps (Shirley's daughters) had a change of heart.  Very interesting how twitter interactions played a huge role.  Can't imagine how difficult it must have been to leave the family and the shelter of the Phelps compound, especially given how tight-knit a community it was and how villified by the outside world they were for their entire lives.  Such a feel good story of courage and redemption.

I used to interact with Megan on twitter. In fact it was the whole reason I started a twitter. She definitely never seemed as crazy as the rest of her family. You could tell behind all the "Gays! AIDS! etc" she was more level headed, as opposed to the batshit crazy vibe you got from her mom when she made TV appearances. It makes sense that talking with people online could open your mind up and make you realize the crazy, twisted morals you had were all bullshit. Good for her, hope she's happy.

Long article but a good read.  For whatever reason, stories like this and the scientology stuff that has been coming out fascinate me.
