k-state tempo this year?
« on: November 16, 2015, 01:33:16 AM »
curious if anyone has any idea how fast k-state intends to play this year? haven't seen much in articles and didn't watch the opener, but i saw it was played to a 75 tempo. i know weber slowed things down in league play last year...virtually to a crawl...but was wondering to what extent that style might remain and/or if they looked to push pace vs Eastern Shore.

I have no idea. Early season tempo is not usually indicative of what oscar's team will be. 6 of K-State's first 8 games featured 68 to 73 possessions, but in Big 12 play we played at fewer than 62 per game.

The extreme lack of depth on this team make me believe that going at a tempo higher than 70 would be suicide.

BUT WHO KNOWS?

the end result is likely going to be the same either way, but yeah, i tend to agree.

It will be interesting to see how much the new shot clock speeds up the game overall. The sample size is extremely small, but right now the national average is 70 possessions per game. Last year finished at 64.8.

Pace up 4%, pts/poss up 1%, scoring up 5% over day 1 last year.

I am very interested to see us tonight.  The Cats handled old Eastern Shore who never even attempted to press, my guess is the Ivies try to poison the well by slowing us down.

They tried, but we broke their zone once we got our starters back in and then we got some run outs off of long rebounds and some turnovers.

It really did seem like we tried to push the ball. There were also several passes that I cringed at because last year they would have been turnovers. Last night our boys handled those passes with ease. Jazzedness is rising!

IMO these guys will be forced to move the ball by the new shot clock rule.  Deathbite, Westicles, Hopper have shown they can get assists.   Claws and Bigmeat have good hands.  DJames infuses action  into the game.   I am more concerned with effeciency.

We will stuggle a lot with the shot clock in conference unless the two pg's develop quickly.  Right now, all anyone has to do is put their best defender on wes and get ready for a late clock rebound.
