I don't consider myself part of a ksu family.  I went to school there, paid tens of thousands to get a degree there, and cheer for the sports when they are entertaining.  This is the extent that most should follow a team unless you or a loved one have a financial stake in it.  To do otherwise is slightly sad, imo.

I don't buy this at all. If entertainment value is your only reason for following a team, why in the world would you follow the Cats?
Because, for the majority of the time since I enrolled on 1998, the fb team has been entertaining.  I have not followed bb since then.  I started mildly watching during wooly and bought season tix for Huggs and frank.  Now, back to not knowing they played last night if it was t for a thread today.

DNR most of this thread but the absolute worst fans in all of sports are the ones that want everyone to show full support for losing programs. it takes some kind of incredible dumbass to not realize that doing that causes your team to suck forever. look at iowa state as an example. they are very good at supporting completely crap coaches and teams no matter what. and because of that paul rhoads is still their coach. if you want a good product you better be prepared to force the issue.

Steve Dave, you could have just "QFT'd" my post.

Also, watching your shitty team lose is not fun for a lot of people.

yeah, I dislike it a lot. these losers need to realize they work for me, not the other way around.

I'm extremely proud of our fans for not supporting a loser.  The second we start packing the stadium for teams that haven't won a conference game is the second we become Iowa State.

went back and read your post 33. good posting.

I'm basically in CNS's camp here.  i only closely follow the cats if I think it's going to make me happy.  When it stops making me happy, i try to stop paying attention.

All part of the agenda, start placing "family" above on field success.   Then you can guilt trip people.

I fully expect to see a slogan like:  "we don't win anything but we're the most fiscally responsible family in college athletics" in the next year or so at current pace.

Will he be by the end of the season?

he's just now eclipsing the 7 year point which is what an iowa state fan will tell you is the minimum a coach needs to implement his own system and players and get some good luck going and some other bullshit so I'd say 50/50.
I believe that is all true, but also, I have heard that he is taking a lot of heat.  That is why he got rid of the Fatman.

I don't even have to try. I just automatically do. my brain and bod are finely tuned machines that have muscle memory about when to switch the tv over to house hunters international.

A lot of times if we're bad and I think we're going to lose I won't even turn on the TV until mid 2nd quarter to see if we are losing and then when we are I turn it off and then I didn't waste any time at all watching it.

I know some folks that love their teams so much they can't even watch the games live because it just makes them sick.

I don't think you only care to watch when it's entertaining, I think you're just afraid to get hurt. You love the Cats. Don't run from your feelings.

That Oklahoma game was timed perfectly on the IDGAF meter. I literally just got smashed and cheered on the Royals! It was amazing. I checked the box score briefly afterwards, but was pretty meh about it.

Guys, I hate following a shitty team.  '04-'05 miserable... '06 kind of entertaining... '07-'09... not much fun.  I got to say '10 to '14 was fun, with '13- '14 a little less.

I mean, ISU has had two coaches in the last 20 years, and both have been absolutely terrible at their jobs. but they're going to support a crap product because that's the ISU thing to do. it's disgusting. they are really terrible people.

Its true, but the crazy thing is those 2 coaches still combined for the best stretch that Iowa State football has ever seen from 2000-2012. No Iowa State fan has literally ever seen a better decade+ of football than that.

Man, can Tivo be more of a win/win.  I mean, fast forward through commercials and halftime as well as giving you a chance to check the real time tweets to see if the game is even worth watching before you even start it.

Do all real family members even show up for their own real family's games?  I usually only see one parent in the crowd, if they even do more than drop the kid off.

I have one family, and two or three other folks who I consider close to that. I love KSU, but the folks there are not my family. Family isn't a bunch of strangers with their love for the Cats as the common bond. While I like many of the people who are in the stands with me at games, I don't think of them as family. Don't cheapen what family means.  Apologies for the mini-rant!
