Wait what time will that be on Central time? @NickRussell

I originally had something in my post about that but I'm not even sure.  Like yeah, we're 2 timezones away, but I think tv is separately like 3 hours behind so that shows are on around the same time of day they're supposed to be.  So maybe 4:30 central/mexico?

The problem with trains is they kill you much more frequently than passenger air travel.

I'd avoid car travel

"Drivers or passengers in cars or light trucks faced a fatality risk of 7.3 per billion passenger-miles"
"The overall fatality rate for long-haul train service...excluding pedestrians and others not on trains...fatality rate is approximately 0.15 per billion passenger miles."
"commercial aviation was the safest mode of travel in the United States, with 0.07 fatalities per billion passenger miles"

Thanks phil, that's pretty crazy.  Stepping on a train is like playing roulette.

unless we transition to a socialist utopia at some point, it will take like 50 years for all cars to be self-driving and it will be a complete disaster with liability, fault, etc, when they get into accidents with human drivers.  crap like this takes forever.  consider that it's been like 45 years since they invented airbags and they only became legally compulsory 17 years ago and there are still plenty of people driving around older cars without them.

self driving cars already interact with people driven cars. It will not be a complete disaster because the accident rate for self-driven cars will be so low.

Yeah it's really annoying when we are backing out and it thinks our steep driveway is an object behind us.

So, back to trains... I'll tell you what, this ride has been pretty enjoyable... I tweeted lots of stuff. If you can't find my twitter acct then you don't follow gE very well.

Will definitely "ride the rails" again. Also, we're only around 30 min behind schedule.

It seems like it is so hard to figure out a route on the Amtrak website. Like, even though I can see that these two stops are on the same route, they say there are not available trains to get from one to the other.
