Ever heard of a hurricane party?

Until you people have done this you have no idea just how fun they are.  OMFG.  I'm gonna name my first-born son Gustav because of the parties we had that week.  Holy cac.

can confirm - Katrina was my first.

Where were you?  Let's talk Louisiana.

Texas' cancerous butt growth.

No one's disputing that.

I actually moved down to Mobile, AL a few days before Katrina got into the gulf.  Was a pretty fantastic time, however, afterward it completely sucked.  Braved Biloxi and Gulfport a few days after it happened that was a flat out nightmare.

Was living in Guam when this happened. No power for 2 weeks, eating spam, and I lived on the military base.  :flush:

Too young to party, but old enough to have to wake up at 4am to lay towels on water the started coming in the front door, and our house was on a hill, a good 5 feet above and 20 feet back from the storm drains clogged with palm tree branches.

I was initially head to Biloxi when the prediction that it would almost come straight up the bay.  But when it switched i decided to sit it out.  I was headed across the bay a day or so before it hit (outer bands coming in)  the bay was empty, like just mud where it's usually relatively deep.  That's when i said holy eff this isn't good.  Here's a video of a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) on top of a building.  I had friends come crash with us, as the water had basically risen to the top of stop signs about a mile from where they lived.

I lived in a pretty spot that was all townhomes and a ton of marines and South Alabama students.  After the whole thing was over the they placed basically a ban on driving around in public, but we were able to go out with the Marines to look at the damage.

Kind of cool chucking a pine cone about 250 yards.  day after was the worse, hot, humid, no wind, no power.

That sounds crazy and I can only imagine.  Glad I wasn't there for that.  Gustav was a blast! :pbj:  ....for like three days until all the liquor and food ran out and it got old sitting in hot-ass muggy weather.  Then I bailed and went to my Grandma's house in Chattanooga.

Great book on Katrina: Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers.  Increds.  Amazing.  Read it.

*edit*:  Who will write a book about MHK's microburst?   :bracketmouse:  <--But with microburst book

Which I never understood, by the way.  Wedding photography is a goddamn racket, and kudos to you if you can pull it off.
