WHAT??? How these coaches weren't immediately sent home is beyond me. If deadspin catches this their lives will change and not in a good way. I hope cheating 11 year old girls was worth it.

In case you wanted to put faces to the losers who wanted to cheat 11 year old girls.

Play to win the tournament not the game?

So the West team thought they could beat the Southeast team in the finals, but not the Central Iowa team?

It sounds to me like the southeast team is kind of getting screwed here. Why put the West team into a 1 game playoff? Just put the Iowans and the Southeast team through.

The Southeast team got to keep their spot in the semis. For the record the Iowa team beat the Washington team in that playoff then lost to the Northeast team in the semifinals.

The coach should be banned from coaching. They're 11 years old. Sheesh dude. Play to win.

These iowans should've been taught at an early age that when the system beats you down, to just accept their iowan position in the world.  Shame on the iowan coach for making these youngsters think it'll get better for them.

Even money on the coach being a #SaveOurSonics supporter, one of the super annoying ones two that are pissed there's no team there but doesn't want to pay up for an arena.

Wrong county.  But my point remains that the iowa coach blew the opportunity to teach those girls what life as an iowan is all about.

Why are 11 year olds traveling around the world to play on softball tournaments? That seems at least as ridiculous as this story.

Do you have the same objection to the little league baseball world series?

Oh man wait till you hear about AAU basketball leagues  :sdeek:

But yeah I totally agree it's wrong that we put that much pressure on middle schoolers to play in these types of leagues.  There has to be a better way of developing talent that doesn't steal a child's adolescence.

These girls are only 11. They have plenty of time to move away and escape an Iowan life.

Maybe, but that falls in line with what I'm thinking.  Because their snitch'n and complain'n worked out this time, they're probably all under the impression of how the world is designed to work for iowans and stick around, blissfully ignorant for now as to what's to come.

AAU isn't that bad for kids that young. It's much more regional.

Age 11 is far too young to teach kids how to throw games and crush the spirit of opposing players.  Responsible coaches wait until high school to do that.

I'm with Rage.  I don't necessarily see travel as a bad thing??   :dunno:

I am 100% against travel for all children until they are 16 years old. Because it's a scary world out there!

11-16 year old kids have no business playing 100+ games a year. Leads to a lot of burnout.
