Beer allergy?
« on: August 15, 2015, 01:06:04 PM »
On a typical Friday I play golf and drink 10-30 miller lites with buds. Now the next day I wake up very congested, I have always thought this was from being outside pollen and whatnot but now I am suspecting it's the beer :horrorsurprise:  after reading a little on the subject it sound like it comes down to two things, alcohol intolerance (body can't break it down) or allergies to the ingredients.  A guy that works for me mentioned some Mexican beers are brewed a little differently and don't give him as much sinus trouble.  Anybody know how to get around this beer allergy crap?

I think you may just have inflammation from being a booze hound.

Sometimes I have an allergic reaction to places where they are brewing beer, specifically 75th street brewery. I've had to leave several times and take a benedryl because of the yeast in the air or something.

DIDN'T HAVE THAT HAPPEN AT DOUBLE SHIFT THOUGH!!!!

Agreed, solutions(that don't involve beer drinking restrictions) ?

you need to do an experiment to find out if it's the alcohol or something else in the beer.  intake the etoh equivalent mixed with the appropriate volume of water and see if you have the same result.

This is a good plan, I'll be experimenting tonight at dinner.  I'm assuming any non beer alchoholic beverage will work?

I could totally live without beer.  Like tomorrow, you say to me: Chingon if you drink a beer I will douse in oil and light you on fire ala that twitchy guy on Return of the King, I would say OK Rawls I am off the stuff. I mean its OK, but not THAT great.

I've been thinking about giving up booze and just doing edibles. Don't like smoking but man if I can just eat a small gummy bear or something? That seems pretty reasonable. Thoughts?

I rarely drink anymore, but I have had that same experience with drinking beer and sometimes wine.  It just isn't worth it to me to feel congested for alcohol.

Tonight's experiments results were compromised, I'm still congested from yesterday so I'm going to regroup and test again later next week.

As for the possibilities of it being a beer allergy, I play a lot of golf in hot weather, like 2-3 rounds a week and there really is no substitute for iced cold beer in these situations.  I will probably continue to pound white lightnin's or a beer that I'm less allergic to, or look into ways to treat the symptoms.

I met a guy who had some allergy (gluten, maybe?) so he couldn't drink regular beer and therefore he only drank those cider beers.
