the term mach refers to the speed of sound relative to the atmospheric pressure and temperature of the local medium. So puni is right, apples to apples mach and c refer to the speed of sound and light respectively, relative to their local medium.

Yeah puni would be right as long as the only medium you are talking about is a vacuum, but we're not.
