who wins the 'ship this year in the big 12?

Prediction: TCU. However, I think that everyone in the Big 12 will have 1 loss. It'll come down to the Baylor @ TCU game, and while I think Baylor is the better team with the game being at TCU I think the Frogs will benefit from the home field advantage.

Betting Pick: Oklahoma. I think they have decent value @ 5-1 or so.

Long Shot: Texas. Have a pretty managable conference schedule. Open up with vs. Okie St. Then @TCU and with OU at the Cotton Bowl. Get a bye. Then have vs. KSU, @ISU, vs. KU, and @WVU. (could be favored in all of these games) Then another bye. Home with Tech and then 9 days before going to Baylor.

I think that UT will probably be a 7-5/6-6 type team, but I think Strong is a good coach and their schedule sets up alright for them. As a long shot, that would be my pick.

My bad. I misread.

I'm going to say Taylor Hilgers gets that distinction.

since chuck is gone this should be interesting.

if all big 12 coaches had to enter and compete in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island, who would win, and why?

Ok. So you can cross of Snyder, Kingsbury, Stoops, Gundy right away.

So that leaves GPat, Briles, Strong, Holgo, Rhodes and Beaty.

I think from that group of six, Strong and Rhodes are your two best bets.

I'll go with Rhodes.

What happens if Sean sucks at coaching? Is that likely to happen?

They don't watch a movie.

Instead, they watch Seasons 1-6 of King Of The Hill.

there is a national coaches party, all the D1 coaches are there. after the party is over there is a meeting of just big 12 coaches. they are all sitting at a giant round table chatting it up, and sean walks in with Bills chalupa supreme and says that someone dropped their rubix cube on the floor during the convention and throws it on the table.

which coach is most likely to try and solve it, and which coach actually solves it?

I'm always hesitant to have high expectations for a new HC entering a P5 league with no head coaching experience, much less no offensive or defensive coordinating experience.

But I think you can make a case that his experience learning from Pops and his time at K-State is just as valuable as coaching experience at a higher level than ST coordinator.

Sean wouldn't be my first choice as a HC. But he might be second or third.

If Sean can keep the "old school" mentality, coach 'em up, #Family thing like Bill has done but sprinkle in some more modern aspects stuff (ie: uniforms, marketing type stuff) I think that would be a damn good option. And realistically, that option is the best we could hope for.

(Very far fetched fictional situation) If the big 12 called for a coaching swap as in all head coaches rotate and had to switch colleges for one season. Which coaches would have the most success at other schools?

Ok. So problem solving skills are being put on display.

That eliminates: Holgo, Beaty, Rhodes, KK, Strong, Stoops.

I would bet that Gundy says he will give it the old college try, but I bet Art Briles is the one to solve it.

Hmm...

I guess it all depends. If Rhodes were the HC at TCU would they be the same 10-11 team. My guess. No.

I think Snyder would fare well in this scenario. Snyder with ISU's roster? Bowl team. Snyder with UT. Confy champ?

Bottom line: The best coaches would be fine. I think Snyder and Patterson would be best, however.

I think it is definitely a top 4 defense in the Big 12.

But here's my issue with everyone talking about how our defense will be what carries us to 8+ wins. Does the experience returning really matter that much?

We play such a soft, bend but don't break scheme that all of our experience in the secondary goes to a bit of a waste.

Two senior CBs. Still playing soft 10 yd cushion at the line of scrimmage. Letting TCU and Baylor just pick up 7-10 yards whenever they want to.

If our secondary is as good as a lot are saying it is, I would like to see a change in philosophy from Hayes and start being more agressive on defense.
