Dad's who vacation with young families, get ITT!
« on: July 14, 2015, 03:20:03 PM »
I just sat down, in another hotel room, and finally looked at the calendar to do the math...in the last 15 days, my family (wife, five yr old, and three month old), have been away from home 11 of those and stayed in five different hotels.

Total travel distance: just over 2300 miles.

At this point I am personally stocking the mini fridge with beer that I have purchased along the way.

It's been fun, but for those of you have or have had young children, you know the ups and downs of long distance traveling.

Let's hear some horror stories!

I had no idea Wacky had kids.  I feel like I don't pay enough attention to his posts.  I'll do better.

Did you use credit card points to pay for the hotel?

Just the other day you were eating pizza on the couch in your underwear answering to no one.  What happened?

lil sd flys a lot I think (a lot for a 2 year old). it's great. we have a car seat specifically for air travel. we have to get a suite or connecting rooms though so it eats through points more quickly than non-kid travel.

I have a 60-year old buddy who can trump all these stories. He is a professor who married an ex-student, 30+ years younger than he was. As one could predict (and I for one did), the young lady had the urge to have a baby. Well, through the magic of invitro, they had THREE girls...all at once. They take a 10-hour drive to the Orlando area several times per year, and on their last trip, the girls got collectively ill. They vomited anywhere and everywhere for most of one day at Disneyworld...and then for the 15+ hour (yes, 15 hours) drive home. The night they were trying to get out of Disney, one of the girls hurled with such volume, that momma was scooping vomit out of her bra and blouse with her hand.

I always just tell my buddy that his life makes mine seem calm and enjoyable. Most of the time, he just shakes his head like he is in some alternative reality.

Seriously, 11 out of 15 days traveling is terrible planning.  That 5 year old has already lost interest in whatever they are doing.

You get a totally separate room for your two year old?

ya need more detail. unless SD gets his own room then that would be pretty rad.

Why does it take 10 hours to get there and 15 hours to get home? Because they were stopping to vomit so often?

yes :dunno:

we will just book a suite and put him in a crib in the living room area or connecting rooms and he gets his own room

the kid takes 2+ hour afternoon naps every day and goes to bed ~8 PM every night. if I didn't get him his own room someone would have to be in there with him for all that time being very quiet in the dark. that's not feasible. especially when I have 1.8 million frequent flyer/hotel miles/points to get him his own room.

Plus you can just leave him in there when you & Mrs. SD go out to do something fun during the day.

Are these coming from Phog or GPC?
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
