What if you just like certain types of beer and aren't actually using it as a prop to further a chosen identity?
regardless of the reasons you like certain types of beer (or anything you consume, really), the beers you choose are part of your identity and the culture at large wherever you may be - just like the car you drive, the music you listen to, the clothes you wear, and the house you live in, etc. They are all for the most part functional but that doesn't mean they aren't part of your identity and culture. In your case, whatever you like is part of the identity of someone who marches to the beat of their own drum!
