My Panasonic plasma went out a few months back, so I replaced it with a 4k Sony.  Best TV that I've ever seen.  It makes standard HD look better. Royals games are gorgeous.  Netflix produces some shows in 4k (Daredevil, House of Cards) that stream 4k if you do it through the app built into the TV. If you run it through a Roku or Apple TV, it will flip it to 1080p by default.  However, you need to have the necessary internet speed to stream 4k.  I have 24mb and there's some lag from time to time with 4k content.

My suggestion is to get one good 4k in a room you watch a lot of TV in, and then buy Vizio's for every other room.  I'm going to hang a 48" 1080p Vizio in my bedroom soon, and that plus a soundbar will put me out about $550.  I got my Sony for about 50% off as they were clearing out the previous year models, so I paid about $1400 for it.

To be 100% honest, I love my Sony, but I'm probably just going to buy Vizio from now on.  Their high end stuff in the 4K range is really nice and about 50-75% less than a Sony or Samsung.  I plan to hang a 60+ inch TV in my basement sometime in the next couple of years, and I'm definitely doing a Vizio.

I think it's just that he needs to go to his bedroom to get away from the kids.

Ultimately, the television I selected is better than that which you selected.  I also got it at a better price

Why wouldn't you want quality sound at all TV watching locations?

We listen to a lot of music.  The Vizio soundbar is bluetooth compatible, so we plan on using it as a stereo in our bedroom.

But, yes, we plan on spending more time watching TV in there once we replace our 24" TV with a 48" Smart TV + Blu Ray.

Will it be the greatest tv you have ever seen?   :excited:

Anyone have any good TV buying pro-tips for 2017?  Moving to a new house next week, and need one for the main living room.  It will be wall mounted over a fireplace that is about 6 feet wide if that matters.

Budget? You can spend anywhere from $600 to 2Gs on a 65" 4K

Fine with the $2k but if there is little difference between the $600 version then I wouldn't want to go that high.  Don't care about "Smart TV" functionality for the most part, pretty well set on that with Chromecast / Roku /  PS4 and prefer those interfaces to the Samsung Smart TV I currently have.  Is 4K going to be a thing on Cable / Streaming anytime soon, or just physical copies of movies?

Bought a 55in Viz 1080p for under $400 awhile back.

It's okay.  When there's more 4K content I'll upgrade.
