Has this been discussed?

It's pretty wild that Matt Walsh is:

1) the name of the guy who wrote that blog
2) best known to me as the name of a parody news guy on comedy central

This thread is TL-DNR.  Just a quick Q for you guys.  Do you always feel compelled to eagerly digest whatever semi-palatable 'controversial' story of the day the tabloidish major news outlets foist upon you...or just this once?  I personally give zero fucks about the gender identity of some guy who was sort of famous for running laps around tracks about 30 years ago and am genuinely shocked and slightly terrified that there's a 6-page thread about this here.

I've got a conspiracy theory for you.  Check it!  Tracy Chapman: Carl Lewis with a Totino's pizza roll addiction.  Prove me wrong.

The distinction between caring about the story and being fascinated by the scale of the reaction to the story seems lost on you.

Edit: sorry for being a jerk, guys.  I am not the thought police.  Please continue your free and open exchange of ideas.

the stuff he spends his invaluable free time thinking about and discussing is deeply meaningful and incredibly important (to him) always.  otherwise he gives zero fucks and you everybody else just needs to deal with that.  maybe spend some time discussing it like pointless idiots if you like.

if it doesn't matter to tpt then the world is rough ridin' wasting its time bothering with it.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

I haven't followed this story much, but just when I thought I had put all the bigots on Facebook feed to "unfollow," I get this event to pull a few more out of the woodwork.

After doing some reading it does appear that gender reassignment is often a psychological issue, and not a "blank caught in a blank's body", and the actual act of reassignment is believed to increase the risk of suicide among other things (obviously depending on where you look and what you read).  In all honesty I hope he/she spent a lot of time with a psychiatrist before making this decision, and that it doesn't lead to suicide.

When using 'they' as a singular pronoun for an agender person, do you use singular verbs?

My friend, Ian, just arrived. They is in the other room.

'are' is a plural verb, referring to more than one person. But if you are referring to a single person, shouldn't you use a singular verb?

The royal we conjugates verbs in matching tense.

e.g - We are not amused.

The royal we originated as meaning "God and I" so that is a plural pronoun referring to more than one person (or deity).

Calling a TS person "they" is every bit as insulting as "it".
