I get the whole free market thing, and for most things it works very very well (education, infrastructure, healthcare, and defense are the things i dont believe it works that great for). But at some point cant you just make too much money? I mean giving away 150 million to a school ,that has 2 performing arts center, to build another performing arts center just seems like a massive waste of resources, when there is so much need in the world.

I know I'm a Commie for saying this, but at some point shouldnt society get this money, and decide what it wants to be done with it? I dont know, i just feel like its ridiculous that someone has this money and is willing to waste for another performing arts center at a school that doesnt need it.  I look forward to being called a libtard.

To take this in another direction, the whole "invisible hand" thing that Adam Smith talks about I believe is warped in the modern economy, with high frequency trading, and traders in general. What makes traders rich, is not necessarily what is best for the economy or society.

The Ivy League should self-impose a cap on annual donations. Maybe they could do it like a baseball salary cap and a percentage of dollars over a certain amount goes to early education for the poor.

If I want to use my money to build an artistic cow dung memorial for Hillary, I should be able to do it.  My money, my thing.  I don't want any damn 'ol communist/ progressive/ money grubber liberal taking my money for social gooding - crap forgot about taxes.  My beef is the hypocrite rich who call for the government to spend money for good causes, but waste their own money on shrines such as this to show that the sun does shine out of their starholes.

private accumulations of wealth have some tendency to creating great works of art, architecture and ideas as well as preserving/conserving great tracts of land.  poor and middle class people, rather desperately poor or slightly better off, have a greater tendency to create fewer marvels of this world.

Uh, yes. In fact, they are by and large more efficient than most charities. It's amazing what old ladies do in their spare time for free.
