Robert Earl Keen wrote a song about them. Can pickles say that?

I came in here to say that I enjoy a good onion ring from time to time, but everyone's breath smells so bad that I can't stay.

Sometimes when I see a white onion sitting there on the counter before being used in whatever I'm making, I will just take a big bite out of it because wow, how delicious

You know what's pretty awesome?  Pickled red onions.  Put that crap on some pulled pork and you're good to go.

get a huge pan and put in a mixture of half butter and half olive oil over medium/high heat, determine how much of this mixture you need based on how many onions you are using (see next step). slice one medium onion per person that is eating (maybe even more, they cook down to almost nothing, you need a lot of onions and a very big pan). slices can be pretty big. like cut it in half and then slice like 10-15 times across each half so you have like half moon pieces and then just pull them apart. put them in the butter/oil mixture in the pan and then reduce the heat to just above simmer. salt, pepper, pinch of sugar and then stir. keep stirring periodically for like 40 minutes until they are really caramelized. you will want to go longer than you think you need to. the key is low heat for a long time. dump them on top of a burger or sandwich or chicken or basically anything you are eating.

onion is the greatest vegetable, maybe.  onions and tomatoes, what a pair of champions.
