made a coffee cup AND saved his life. man, some people just have it all.
Shut the eff up. The coffee cup is a right of passage at Valley Hope. Once you complete your treatment you hang the cup you made on the wall. After a year of sobriety, you get to come back and pick your cup up. There are quite a few cups, a whole wall, of cups with black ribbons on them. I'll let you guess what they are for.
the thing is, I don't think this is a life-or-death struggle for D. Scott, and what he's doing diminishes the struggle of people with real problems. I could very well be wrong, but that's the vibe I get.
Time will tell. Either he has a problem or he just dropped $10k+ for attention.
there is someone that i know decently well who went to rehab, lived in a halfway house or whatever and has since gone completely clean and fairly regularly attends AA meetings and has for five years. it's really weird though, because those of us that know him best don't think he honestly ever had a real problem. drank a little, smoked a little, but it did not seem too much or too often and did not seem to really cause him any real problems.
it's interesting though, because he is without a doubt a better, happier, more well adjusted person since he stopped. maybe he's just matured, maybe never doing that stuff has made a huge difference, maybe just belonging to a group and being able to go to meetings and talk about stuff is the key for him. who knows? so was d scotts thing life or death? doubtfult. but was it making his life significantly worse without a bunch of people knowing? certainly possible.
