Greenies & Water Whores Causin Californians to Whiz Dirt!
« on: April 06, 2015, 10:54:52 PM »
It is so dry in CA people are getting so dry they are whizzing dust.  The greenies and little critter protectors put endangered species and little birds ahead of drinking water, food, and poor people.  Water is being flushed down rivers to the ocean bays to keep some 2 inch fish alive - let the damn things die instead of people.   When it gets to point where you have to drink recycled whzwater its time to put humans first.  I read an article today that quoted an environmentalist that wanted to take water from farmers - evo-guy what are you going to eat - roasted dog turds from the park.  What are the vegetables pickers going to pick - maybe carcasses of people who die of thirst.  Finally average grunt Joe has to flush once a day, no water in the pool, rocks instead grass, but the rich elite Hollowworld do gooders just go on buying and using water - water whores! Peons attack!

rest easy, renocat.  everyone on my street is still watering the lawn (and sidewalk, and about half of the street).

California Fun Fact: Agriculture accounts for 2% of the California economy, but uses 80% of the usable water.

1 almond: 1 gal water.

1 walnut: 6 gal water.

Interesting,  if accurate.

If someone is whizzing dust they should schedule an appointment with a urologist immediately.

Should the state be able to take a farmer's nuts?  Environmentalist think so even if a farmer owns a right to the water.

farmers should be responsible about the land they work and the ground water they use.  Ground water is def an issue.

I think most of the water in California is surface water imported from other states.

You have to convert walnuts and almonds to dollars to have a valid comparison.

This is interesting.

http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/future_tense/2014/05/_10_percent_of_california_s_water_goes_to_almond_farming.html

The numbers are interesting, anyway. The author is kind of an idiot.

no one has taken anyone's water rights.  no one has even talked about it.

Yeah, heard a Science Friday podcast on this last week.  They said that none of this is really about anything other than ground water and how farms are just pumping like crazy and the drought is making this all a bid deal.  A day or so after hearing the pod cast, I saw something on Bill Mahr(I know, I know.  I hate the guy but found this topic when flipping through) where a local proff showed a ground water map from three yrs ago vs now and crap is looking bad.

The science friday podcast said that part of the problem is that investment groups are buying large plantation crops, pumping/watering like rough ridin' mad to make it as profitable as possible, and planning for to sell in the next few yrs, and how that is making it bad for family farmers who actually have to have a long term plan.  :dunno:

Seems like ground water rights needs to be addressed if the system is going to remain stable.  Wasn't there a bid best practices type change in Ag right after the great depression to help prevent dust bowl type crap from happening again?  Seems like that level of best practices should be being discussed right now.  I am not saying they need to impose upon everyone right now, but it would be a good idea to have had the discussion and the beginning of a plan for if it is ever needed.

I wouldn't view dewatering of aquifers during a severe drought as a major problem. It takes years to establish an orchard and farmers should protect their investments by whatever means they have available. If the dewatering continues after the drought, that is a problem, but it will take care of itself. Farmers will just start growing something else and 80% of the world's almond production will stop.

In all seriousness I think someone like elon musk will figure out how to desalinate the pacific before it gets too bad.

They are already building desalination plants along the coast, where they already have the rights. There will be fights with the coastal commission and envirolibs to get more built. The money for the bullet train to nowhere should be used to build one every 20 miles along the coast.

It would be a lot more cost effective to just import more water from Canada.
