With the hire of Shaka, Texas instantly becomes the media darling of the Big 12.  I have read countless articles citing what a great guy he is, and clearly he can flat out coach.

What an amazing "get" for the Big 12.  It's going to be really great rooting for him to do well.

I wonder what the over/under is on the number of Big 12 titles he will win in his first 10 years?  I'd say at least 4, conservatively.

KU's run is over. They might win it one more year. But after that, #hookem for years.

I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

This makes me that much angrier that Iowa State pissed the conference title down their leg this season.

True, but OU fans should be more upset. Lost to us twice and lost a 20 point lead in the 2nd half in Ames.

Shaka is a huge get, but don't underestimate the quality of coaching in the conference already. I'd definitely go with the under 4 for Big XII titles in first ten years.

I'm kinda missing Barnes already, it made it easy to hate on Texas.

Shaka couldn't even win the CAA or A10 so there is no reason I should believe he can win the Big 12.

I doubt he'll match 2003-2008 Texas in any 6 year span

Easily has the most raw coaching talent with the most upside in the league Pete.  You know me though, its all about #family

Starting in 2002-2003, ending in 2010-2011, Texas went 232-80 for a win % of .744.

It might have been time for a new leader in Austin, but I'm not sure I think Shaka will match a run like Barnes had. I was kinda of the mindset of "oh barnes is overrated blah blah" but when you look at the stats, it was a hell of a run.

Barnes has left a very good situation for Smart. Both studs who are probably best buds IRL.

Yeah, I know that. Smart brought in a top 20 kid just last year to VCU. I think he'll recruit just as good as Barnes, if not better.

Count me amongst the crowd that does not think shaka will be able to out recruit Rick Barnes.  He would have to start pulling in coach K, calipari, self classes.

He'll recruit well, he'll be fine. Barnes left him with a lot to work with and a fantastic foundation for the program.

Yep.

Strong foundation with sky high potential.
