Chuggins winning the COY and Marcus being HM All-Conference were both laughable.

There was a news guy here in Iowa going H.A.M that Hield and Staten were picked for the first team over Monte Morris, said Morris was "ripped off."

Self was and is clearly the best coach in the conference, Huggins has been there way too long to get a rookie coach benefit of the doubt vote. Marcus has no business anywhere around the All-Conference team, he was either suspended or completely a non-factor for nearly half of the conference schedule. If the coaches felt like they had to have a K-Stater then Nino was the clear choice.

I haven't looked at the whole list because no one linked it in this thread.

Just one coach had to vote for Marcus.

Self should win coach of the year every year but I don't have a big problem with giving it to the second best coach every now and then.

It's a sham that the opposing coaches vote for COY. These coaches are so jealous of Self for, year after year, making the look 2nd tier. I realize he can't win it every year, but this year he did more w less than he has in years past. Hell, he single handedly willed and coached Perry to 1st team status.

Scott Drew or Lon Kruger didn't win either

I'm not surprised Marcus got HM. He was the player on this team opponents had to game plan for most, he basically won both OU games, and still was our PPG leader.

Huggins righted a ship going the wrong way, I think the award is well deserved. Self lost the most conference games during his KU tenure. I think Lon's body of work at OU is something that could be consider to win the award.

You do realize that he was the coach when the ship was "going the wrong way" right? They were a whole 2 games better in conference this year, that's right TWO!

His team went for a Kenpom ranking of 68 to 24.

Well, OU wasn't any games better and Drew was also two games better but if that's the metric you wanna use...

I think established coaches like Huggs get a bit of a pass for an occasional bad season or two, then get rewarded when they recover with a good one. That seems to be what happened.

I totally forgot Ejim won PotY last year until a KU fan brought it up on twitter.

Pretty sad to not even care to look at these :(

I didn't use the improvement metric, mixed-nutz did. I'm fairly certain I said Self should have been the POY. The two games was just to show  m-n that his train wrong direction thing was absurd.

Self doesn't always get COY when his team isn't seen by some as arguably the worst of his teams in a decade.  Why would he get it when his team is seen by some as arguably the worst of his teams in a decade?

"Worst team in a decade" for Self is very relative.

Self's finishes in kenpom (starting with this year): 9, 12, 8, 4, 2, 2, 10, 1, 5, 8, 13, 16.

I'm no Jayhawk historian, but my opinion is that Self is probably the greatest coach in KU history.

He's coaching in K's era, and he hasn't won multiple titles yet, but when it's all said and done, his resume is going to be beyond ridiculous.

I think self is going to be talked about as one of the best ever anywhere by the time he is done.  Assuming he stays in college.
