Obviously this song has been around for generations. I'm sure I know some good dudes that are SAEs but this coupled with my experience with them makes me thing institutional

Sigma Alpha Epsilon has had nine deaths linked to drinking, drugs and hazing since 2006, more than any other Greek organization, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.[4] More than 100 chapters have been disciplined since 2007, with at least fifteen suspended or closed since 2010. A potential initiate to the SAE chapter at Salisbury University in Maryland alleged that he was beaten with a paddle, forced to drink alcohol to the point of losing consciousness and confined in a basement for nine hours without access to food, water or a bathroom while being subjected to music torture, an experience described as being "almost like Guantanamo Bay". The allegations were verified by a university investigation that lead to the suspension of the chapter on the grounds that it had violated Salisbury policies on alcohol, hazing, and threats or acts of violence.[4]

As a result of these incidents, student members pay among the highest rates for liability insurance of any fraternity.[4] In March 2014 JPMorgan Chase stopped managing an investment account of SAE's charitable foundation, with bad publicity from hazing as the likely cause.[9]

Not for nothing but Lambda Chi eliminated pledges in 1969 and first took a vow against hazing in 1920. SAE, not surprisingly, having a hard time keeping up with the times.

Of course the links confirm it, but you don't need links to assume that the song wasn't some spontaneous happening by a few racially insensitive punks. What more ridiculous, imo, is the knee-jerk reaction by SAE higher-ups/ alums when they've probably known about the song forever and likely participated themselves.

I haven't been inside many fraternities, but the fact that a bunch of sheltered, mostly upper-middle class kids from the suburbs think it's cool and fun say or sing racist stuff isn't surprising at all.

obviously im not defending those assholes, but i do think its important to realize that not all fraternities have songs and mindsets like this one. there are fraternities out there that have good guys who try to fight stereotypes that assholes like OU SAE portray.

I was in a fraternity at KSUCats. Pretty involved for 1 year, then Rugby took over my party time and extra free time. I don't recall any racism (I'd have quit if there was), and I'd say about half of the guys were lower middle class families.

This is what I gathered.   SAE nationals needs to be a bit less "shocked" though.  I'd bet most of them knew this song existed in one form or another.
