“You’re going to have years like this where things happen.”

I certainly can't remember a year where K-State basketball had this much internal drama. I don't think years like this are really all that common, oscar.

"I think our staff has done a great job of keeping our guys together."

I guess if you consider having nobody quit the team during the middle of the year a success, then sure, why not. We're recruiting like at least two players will quit or be kicked off the team (most likely will be more than that), there were several suspensions during the year, and many incidents during games where it was quite obvious that lots of our players really just don't like each other very much.

"For the most part, of our 31 games, we’ve competed with everybody except for a couple of them when we didn’t have a good second half.”

Yeah, I guess all the first halves we failed to reach twenty points must fall under some other definition of "competing" that I'm unfamiliar with. We lost to Texas Southern, LBSU, and got blown out by the bottom two teams in our league. Hardly just a couple of bad second halves.

Frank had way more dramatic years than this one.

But the teams never sucked.

Side note: I find comparisons of oscar to Frank more tiresome by the day. Not a jab at Rusty.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Most of what he said was honest. If he found a way to win 5 more games the pill is easier to swallow. If this season comes a pattern it is a major problem. If not whatever.

I think Jevon is one of the guys on this team that would have taken well to Frank's coaching style. Both coaches have positives and negatives.

“You’re going to have years like this where things happen,” he said. “It’s added up to no consistency and no continuity. It’s tough to deal with and crisis management is one of your hats you have to wear.

“I think our staff has done a great job of keeping our guys together. For the most part, of our 31 games, we’ve competed with everybody except for a couple of them when we didn’t have a good second half.”

Surely he doesn't believe that?

I think he absolutely does. 100%

I'd like to know the questions that prompted that answer. They may already be, but it would be nice if someone in the media would ask oscar the tough questions.

"What are you and the staff going to do to assure alumni and fans that this season's failure isn't going to be repeated." That kind of stuff. Of course, you can't just rail him in a media situation like K-State, but you can grill the guy after buttering him up a bit.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Pretty sure that's from the big 12 teleconference.  You probably could've called in and asked whatever you wanted.

Who usually calls in to those things? Journos? Fans? I've only listened to a couple in my life.

Media types, but I'm not sure what's in place to prevent random heroes from entering the fray.

the only player I can remember that left midseason left because he literally could not run up the court, he was physically incapable

That's rusty being rusty. The only season that compares at all was 2009-10 when CK had two issues, Dillards and weedgate, but neither of those issues were internal team conflict like this team seems to have weekly. All of Frank's teams loved each other, it was their most endearing quality, outside of winning of course.

Frank teams were as dramatic or more.  Drama isn't limited to suspensions.  Frank team drama is almost automatically more dramatic because it and we were relevant to college basketball, plus we'd eventually win out over the drama.

That season also had Asprilla leave mid-year, making it was way worse than this one. But yeah, Frank held it together, for the most part.

Again though, when there was a player problem it was dealt with it didn't permeate all season and effect the entire team with the poison that this team seems to have. I'm sure winning is a large part of this equation but the bottom line is that something like this is a problem and it's happened more than once with this coach.

A player leaving midseason is a problem solving itself, in its weird own way.

That was the great thing about Frank's "Us vs The World" mentality. The team rarely had drama. Individuals would at times cause some problems, but they would be cut off from the media, and then quickly and quietly relocated at season's end. The core of the team was almost always thriving. There was always a unified front to show the public. AND despite all the turnover, the results continued to be very solid. This year's drama seems to occupy every nook and cranny of the program, and you have a head coach who is out in the media telling anybody who will listen that he has no rough ridin' idea how to deal with it, this stuff just magically happens and it will magically go away. It's a rough ridin' three ring circus.
