Raef was a slightly less physical version of Perry Ellis surrounded with better players.

LOL, this is not accurate at all.  Raef was a white.

He was the best damn baller named Raef, that's for sure.

Plus as other have already alluded to he was the poster child of the "KU is soft" teams.

Darrell Arthur actually isn't a bad comparo - both were above average athletes and shooters for their size that were great finishers on stacked teams

Raef was before my time.  I didn't start caring about KU hoops until I matriculated to KU.  I do know that Raef is about a foot taller than Perry, though.  I think Sasha Kaun is the right comparison, here.

A second team of
F Griffin
G Wiggins
G Allen
G Rush
G Stinson

Would be very salty.  A 5 out/high screen and roll would be brutal.

I never got to see old Raef LaFrentz play.  Pretty good?

There was one game vs Wooldridge at Bramlage, they were killing us, toward the end he was beyond the 3-point line and none of our players were within 10 feet of him. He stood there, looked around, and finally jacked up probably the only 3-point shot of his career.

Nothing but net.

He is one of my most hated Jayhawks.

I would slide Pierce down to the 2 and have Blake play center

Allen, Stinson and Smart aren't very good three-point shooters.  You should have more guys that are good at that.

Do you mean best career in the Big 12, or best player to come from the Big 12?

I think best seasons would be more interesting.  Because that is closer to the first part (the second part would probably rely more on NBA data) but doesn't discount a one-and-done.  Also, it is always a bit difficult to compare players that play completely different positions.

Best Seasons Bigs

God Tier
1a. Beasley 07-08
1b. Durant 06-07

Elites
3. Griffin 08-09

Kansas Bigs + Fizer  It is really incredible how interchangeable the Kansas bigs #'s are, was not expecting that.
Fizer 99-00
LaFrentz 96-97, 97-98
Gooden 01-02
Collison 02-03
Simien 04-05

This is a great list. Beasley should have been national player of the year when he was with us, giving the Big XII NPOY 3 years in a row with Durant-Beasley-Griffin
I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps, etc.

Allen, Stinson and Smart aren't very good three-point shooters.  You should have more guys that are good at that.

Allen is a lock down defender, Stinson is a screen and roll back up PG and lock down defender, Smart is a screen and roll PG and lock down defender.  I value that stuff too.

Between- Rush, Pullen, Pierce, Durant, Wiggins, Tinsley I tried to pick guys that would have a role to play instead of taking jumpshots when there are already elite shooter/scorers.

he is very good, and maybe should be there instead of embiid but embiid is such a game changer shot blocking wise.  Also, at some point the amount of athletic F make putting slow back to basket guys in boring.

does anyone remember the game griffin had his sophomore season in the OOD? he had luis colon on him and only luis colon, for some reason.

29 points, 15 rebs (7 offensive). OU won 61-53.

bubbles4ksu held up a sign that said "blake griffin has gingervitis"

He is basically Jacob Pullen so I don't know why I'd need another one.  I agree he is really good, but Stinson and Smart are much more effective on pick/roll and defense.

I guess but:

Paul Pierce
Durant
Rush

and he doesn't play defense.  Who is he taking minutes from?

People's memories are so different from reality sometimes

It was Kansas senior Raef LaFrentz who plunged a dagger through the Wildcats' hearts, sinking a three-pointer with 2:39 remaining in the Jayhawks' 73-58 victory over KSU at sold-out Bramlage Coliseum.

``I think it was a dagger in coach (Roy) Williams' heart. He almost had a heart attack when I shot that three,'' LaFrentz said. He scored 10 consecutive points down the stretch, capping his scoring spree with the trifecta that gave KU a 69-58 lead.

``I was open, stepped up and knocked it down,'' LaFrentz said. ``I have a world of confidence in my three-point ability.''

``I do try to take it upon myself to step up when the team needs me, especially on the offensive end because that's one of my strengths,'' LaFrentz said. ``Paul (Pierce) was in foul trouble, so I figured what the heck, give it a shot.''
