Moving to Dallas...
« on: April 18, 2010, 06:10:58 PM »
Took a job. Starting in August. Need to find an apartment... would like to get much of the research/hunting out of the way before going down to look at some (if even necessary)

1.)Anyone have good rec's? Anyone with insight?

2.)Should I just start on lame-o sites like apartments.com or forrent.com etc.?

Office will be on McKinney in the "uptown" area I am told.

thx, bros.  :combofan:

Stayed down there when I went to interview.  Right downtown @ Marriott.  Walked around a block and didn't see any place to watch the KSU/Xavier game ( :kstatriot: ).  Cabbed it to Christie's (I think).  EMAW bar. But what part of downtown exactly cuz I didn't see anything??

Lived in Dallas for 7 years.  Just got back from there this weekend.  It does really depend on where your job is but I think you'd be safe doing anything right in the middle of DFW.  Arlington, Bedford Euless, Flower Mound are all great locations that can get you to Dallas or Ft. Worth fairly easily.  Don't live in Oak Cliff.  Feel free to PM me for any other questions you may have.  You'll love living there.  Tons of poon..
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

Dallas > Houston. It's not a bad place. Richardson/Plano came off as really boring to me though. If you're looking for a couple of hours to kill, find this Asian Art Museum downtown. It's got some ridiculously old/intricate pottery and paintings that probably took like 300 years each to produce b/c they're so complicated. I don't know what the name of the place was, but I was impressed (and I hate art)

Also, DFWIA is chock full of  :AA:

agree on the traffic.  if there's anything appealing near the office, snap it up.  if not, i've always liked arlington, but i'm sure there's plenty of comparable areas closer to dallas.  always been more ft worth centered when emawing in the metroplex, personally.

You can't buy liquor in Ft. Worth (at least you couldn't a few years ago)

I usually tend to follow sys' advice on stuff but Arlington is kind of in a shitty area imo.

lots of cheap foreign restaurants.  mature trees.  uta.

it is kinda shitty, but i like it much more than the young tree, drive to everywhere, poorly-constructed giant house burbs up in the north and nw.  which is really my only other metroplex comparo.

yeah, I went to a strip club with about 12 guys during the lunch break of a conference I was at in Arlington that had a free lunch buffet.  The buffet consisted of mini-burritos, those mini-sausages and strippers with c-section scars.....this conference was prolly my only extensive Arlington experience so I may be a bit jaded/biased too.
