"As a Notre Dame fan, I think whatever the powers-that-be feel is best for Notre Dame, that's what they should do," Weis said. "I don't really have an opinion one way or another. It never really crossed my mind when I was coaching. Same thing with scheduling."The only thing I was happy about -- and this might sound weird -- was that the Big 12 held together. I'm living about 35 minutes away from Kansas. Kansas State sits an hour and a half away and Mizzou is about two hours away. I think a conference break-up would have really hurt those teams."
Really a lot of affirmation and validation going on in Tardville about the Pac-10 wanting ku over OSU . . . Ben's even tossing around words like, "the fact . . ." Even more amusing is Ben talking about how it's "killing the collective psyche of powerespect nation" (the fact that Pac-10 wanted ku) . . . when in reality, nobody on this board bought for one second that ku and K-State were really working together. We were all just laughing at how butt hurt Tardville was thinking that ku and K-State were tied together and how butt hurt Tardville was that ku wasn't the first choice all along, rather than Plan C at best, and probably more like Plan D or Plan E. The entire "ku to the Pac 10" hinged completely on Texas and OU going to the Pac 10. I think we can pretty much say that were eye witness to the pure desperation of ku fans as they collectively soiled their tampons at the reality of ku being about 4th or 5th tier in the pecking order of conference realignment . . . and just like the rest of the forgotten 5 ku fell in line like a good little boy just as soon as Texas made its decision. Now Tardville has to affirm and validate themselves by proclaiming they really were desired all along. All of which is . . . kind of sad really.
KSU should feel very good about the future.... Replyinfo from the Regent 2 day meeting this week should make all KSU supporters smile..............the big 12 changes will make KSU sports stronger...when we win in sports that means more sport & academic donations for our school....unless the NCAA changes scholarship limits we can and will compete with all big 12 teams.. esp in football and basketball........we will get more Private and Gov Research $ by being in the big 12 (esp with Texas in the conf)..our reputation in the big 12 has grown with Pres Schulz and AD Currie taking such a active part in saving the big 12....KU and KSU really worked together as a Team to save the big 12.....we need to see what happens with 10 teams before we add more teams...but....I think there will be 12 teams in the big 12 and I think this will happen while Coach Snyder is still our football coach....we should all thank our super team of Pres Kirk and AD John every time we see them...they both had a huge impact in saving the big 12..

Just long enough to get NU and CU out and get through the payout issue. Get paid, then bring in two more.

okiecatfanAdd Buddy Open thread to our Athletic Department from the fans Reply --------------------------------------------------------------------------------The recent league chaos has now alerted many who were asleep on what is going to be a continuing issue for KSU. Do we want to stay in the big time football game? I for one say yes and think the majority do to. But it should be readily apparent that the status quo will be our undoing and ultimately land us in the MWC or similar demotion. This board has some pretty well connected and successful people on it and there are any number of good ideas floating around on any idea at a given time but it strikes me that a thread of the best ideas might be nice to send to our AD to let them get some out of the box ideas on how to grow our fan base. Please save the nude dancers and other "humor" from the suggestion box. Now my thoughts are that our biggest issue will always be growing fan base and there are a couple very good targets for that. To the east lays KC. We should look hard at a KU/KSU annual game in Arrowhead. Seek corporate/community sponsorship and try to grow our own version of the annual game in Dallas for OU and Texas. Fans love it, Dallas loves it and it generates interest in the DFW market even in off years for those teams. We need to find a way to get ID in KC on either side of the border so TVs turn to us when we play.In the absence of that we should consider looking at a MU/KSU series where we play our home game in Arrowhead and MU's in St. Louis. The Manhattan merchants will whine but if we can grow the fan base and ultimately expand the stadium and bring that many more people to town for every home game they will do no worse than a break even in the long run. If we don't get after those markets I wonder what they will think when we are in minor league that only generates 20-30,000 ticket sales per games. A less thought of area to really expand our brand nation wide is to our west in Ft. Riley. I have always thought that our admin has failed to understand promotion expenses correctly. Many of my clients give away services to build interest and corral future sales. I think there should be at least 500 if not 1000 seats that should be free every home game for Riley soldiers. Whenever we don't have a sell out we should up the number and give free walk up tickets if they haven't sold a half hour before game time to soldiers. Hopefully we show them a good time and a good product on the field and when they move to other parts of the country we have created someone who will turn the TV to KSU games and root for us. This group gives us access to the whole country. I've always thought that we should consider a major fund raiser to expand the stadium but only for good seats ie. second tier on the west side between the 10 yard lines. Why should we expand without demand to fill the seats? My short answer is you can immediately fill those seats. Not with immediate revenues---which is why you have to fund raise instead of revenue bond them---but they become a big part of your promotion vehicle. First we largely convert the endzone seats to either free promotion seats or even lower cost family areas. I would do the section near Vanier for family and put the free seats near all the concessions at the other end. The concession take will help offset the free seats. Let those paying end zone and cheap seat prices upgrade at little or no cost to the ends of the new sections or the ends of the east side that are seldom filled. So who goes in these free seats besides the 500 soldiers? Easy we use them for networking! Say we are looking at 3000 seats to fill. We start a lottery for high schools. Use the lottery or random number generator so NCAA can't claim we are doing back door recruiting and select several schools for every home game and invite each of them to bring up to 100 coaches and players to the game for free. They will burn thru the concessions if my experience in taking teen age males to games is an indication. If we limit how we handle them including the lottery approach we have zero risk with the NCAA and a great chance to plant our brand with young athletes and coaches. The trick is to get the stadium full with every good seat a paying seat and the cheap seats creating either future players or patrons. Bill could eventually have a 65,000 seat stadium full every game.Getting people to upgrade in the future and instantly realizing a little new revenue for the school just requires a little tech savvy. We should start a cheap seat program that charges a bit more than the base price whereby you get upgraded automatically to certain sections when those seats have not sold the night before a game. This requires the use of e-tickets but since I see airline financial statements claiming operational savings from the implementation of those systems so don't think there is much cost done right. That's my out of the box thoughts. Lets see if we can get some better ones for our AD to help our beloved Cats.

Folks, "good coaching" is what is going to keep us from the ranks of the mid-major AND NOTHING ELSE! NOTHING.If conference armageddon taught us anything, it's that as long as LHCBS can coach up this program, we'll be fine.
