After the Cuban Missile Crisis, did they have a party?  If so, please describe....I'd like to use that a beginning point for how to proceed with our "Big 12 Lives" festival.

So if the Big12 stays together, how does all this impact our recruiting going forward?  Is the conference going to be constantly viewed as on the brink of destruction, so recruits won't want to sign with one of the five loser schools?

Recruits already don't want to sign with the five loser schools.  That's one of the reasons they are the loser schools.

I would sign it with a one million billion dollar buyout penalty.

The Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) 5 deserve everything we get 5 years from now if we agree to this.
What available options are not going to be available 5 years from now?

this.  the mountain fracking west was our ONLY option by ourselves.  we aren't giving up anything.  should this work out, it's the best case we could have hoped for.  let's just say that the conference does only last 5 years...we'd be getting about 10m more a year for 5 years than we are getting right now or in any conference we would've ended up in if the sh*t hit the fan.

It is pissing me off that people keep acting like suckling at the Texas teet is such a bad move for KSU.  Big fracking deal if the conference explodes in two years.  We have two extra years of not being a fracking Mountain West member.  Newsflash:  K-State is a fracking loser school.  We will still be in two years and we can join other loser schools then too.

This. If K-State had any decent options at this point (ie, more stability for comparable revenue/prestige), do people like Kitchen think we'd have gone around for the last week talking about how hard we're trying to keep the Big 12 together?  No.  We'd have made like aTm and been like, "You know what, Texas?  Go ahead and break up the conference.  We'll be fine.  We'll just go join our buddies over here."

We don't have great options. And what we've found out over the last week is that even schools that we thought had a decent profile, such as KU and Mizzou, are still an afterthought/pawn when it comes to realignment.  If those schools are an afterthought, we become ignored altogether--as we saw on multiple ESPN reports when K-State being screwed didn't even come up when they were talking about KU and Mizzou being screwed.

In a perfect world for us, we'd get as much revenue as Texas, either on our own or through sharing. But in the real world, we have to deal with the fact that we don't bring revenue to the table. Thus, if we want a seat at the big boys' table, we have to make a lot of concessions.  The benefit for us is that we get the opportunity to beat the Texas's and Oklahoma's of the world, and see our games on network TV and highlights on SportsCenter.

Here's a benefit of keeping the Big 12 together that's even more important than preserving KSU's BCS status....really, really pissed off Texas fans.

http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/65706-Chip-Texas-will-announce-as-early-as-today-that-UT-will-commit-to-a-10-member-Big-12

Texas fans will be pissed when they find out they'll never go undefeated again when they have to play KSU every year.

The Texas Longhorns, based on a TV deal in the works that could pay them upwards of $25 million per year, are leaning toward staying in a 10-team Big 12 for the foreseeable future, Orangebloods.com has reported, citing sources familiar with negotiations.

Texas was meeting Monday with the other remaining nine schools in the Big 12 about a TV deal included in a plan put together by Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe that would keep the league intact with its current programs, according to multiple reports.

Texas stands to earn between $20 million and $25 million in television revenue, including money from its own network, in the reworked deal, according to Orangebloods.com.

The Longhorns network figures to generate between $3 million and $5 million, according to the report. Because the Big 12 has unequal revenue sharing, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all would receive at least $20 million annually from the new deal.

The other schools seven schools in the Big 12 would make between $14 million and $17 million, doubling what they currently receive in TV revenue.

Earlier Monday, ESPN reported that the departure of Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the Pac-10 was "imminent," citing four sources within the Big 12 said Monday. The report said that Texas' interest in being aligned with the research opportunities and academic missions of Pac-10 schools is driving the decision, along with money.

But a source within the Big 12 told ESPN's Joe Schad that Texas president William Powers Jr. was working through the Beebe's projections to determine if they compare financially with a proposal by Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott.

Part of those projections would likely include "adjustments" from television partners as well as future contracts that were more on par with the contracts of other conferences, the source said.

Earlier Monday, a source told ESPN's Schad that Powers was taking a "global view" of the landscape, excited about the importance of aligning his school with research opportunities and academic reputations of schools in the Pac-10.

But clearly being able to come at least close to the Pac-10 financial projections, while being able to still launch a network, may have swayed Powers to change his mind. The source within the Big 12 said Beebe's plan was "gaining traction" with Powers.

Best case scenario:  Keep the Big12 together long enough to get the new facility up and running in Manhattan.  When there is talk of reallignment in another five years we leak information that KSU is leaning towards releasing a few viruses to wipe out all of the livestock in North America unless a power conference picks us up.   :comehere:

??? regarding the proposed TV deals.  Is this going to be a pay for performance type deal or something that is predetermined.  For instance if KSU is a top 10 football team and is on ABC/ESPN 5 times next year is that going to get them more money or is the deal set in stone and based on prior performance?
