Yes. That also allows schools like KU and ISU to hang a banner at the end of the year and feel good about their season.

That is ideal, but logistically it doesn't work.

"A university source did not disclose the nature of the talks," reported the Houston Chronicle, "but it is believed that one of the topics was conference expansion." As ESPN's Travis Haney wrote on Twitter, leaking discussions the day before the Big 12 decides whether to expand is nothing short of inspired. The Cougars have been trying to break into the Big 12 for a few years now -- and have a compelling case to do so -- but have reportedly been barred by the conference's Texas-based schools in an effort to protect market share, both from a financial and recruiting standpoint. But if the Big 12 allows Houston to escape to the Pac-12, that power conference would infiltrate not only the fertile state of Texas but the nation’s fourth-largest city. Stay tuned for high drama on the expansion front. In addition to UH, the Big 12 has reportedly considered Cincinnati, BYU, Memphis, UCF, USF, UConn, Boise State and Colorado State.
