I'm not sure I want BYU, but this guy makes interesting points. He basically says we should add BYU in football only, and since they have a TV deal with ESPN right now, they wouldn't need any TV money from the Big 12 until we renegotiated the contract in 2024.

I can think of one other team would be a good candidate for football-only and a "keep your own money deal"...

I don't like football-only.  I've gone back and forth on that, but I've finally decided that I'm against.

I'd imagine it's quite a bit cheaper to build in Waco than Ft. Collins, as well.

CSU is a major university in an elite setting. That matters more than facilities and the quality of their football team. Both of those will get a whole lot better with Big 12 money. Memphis and Cincinnati are just disgusting. Really, anybody we could add would be a bad idea.

I'm totally against it too.  But, I like it better than adding Cincy and Memphis.

I hope we just stay right where we are.

CSU is the least disgusting of those three... Fort Collins is awesome, Memphis and Cincy are smelly.

I think ND might be interested in the following

1. North Division -ND,KSU,KU,ISU,WVU,BYU
   South Division -UT,OU,OSU,TT,TCU,BU

2. Conference schedule is only 7 games
This allows ND to easily keep USC and Navy every year and still have 3 more spots to rotate thru the Michigans, Michigan States, Stanfords and FSUs they like to schedule but still giving them access to the playoff.  This could become very attractive to ND if the playoff goes to 8 with an autobid for the P5, essentially reducing spots for ND by 25%.

Additionally, 7 games allows UT and OU to also schedule the best non cons, hopefully keeping any wanderlust sated while giving the have-nots the ability schedule 4 easy noncons if they desire.

Is trading an annual game with ND worth giving up our beautiful round robin?  Of course not but it might the only way the Big 12 is ever truly stable.

I judge people's intelligence about collegiate athletics solely on the "BYU to the Big 12" talking point. It's always been a great litmus test.

Start increasing your due diligence with a handful of schools.  Send representatives to the schools and do a full work up.  Really get in deep with the financials and play out all of your scenarios.

See how next year's selection goes.  Does an 11-2 Clemson get in over 11-1 TCU/Baylor?  If so, we need to probably start seriously moving forward.  Because if we make a decision, It's likely two years before they play in the league.

So, if we get screwed in December 2015, odds are we will have to make a decision in Q1 2016, and the teams will start conference play in August/Sept. 2017.  By the time those teams get a full share and possibly start to become competitive, we're looking at 2020.  The current CFB contract is up in 2025.  Our GOR coincides with that duration.

If we want to have a strong and capable set of teams by 2025, what's important is to give these teams as much time to acclimate as possible.  While it seems like we have a long time to wait, we really don't.  There will be a certain level of decisiveness that needs to happen.

I think that if you stay away from football only, your four best options are Cincy, UCF, Memphis, and Colorado State.  They just need to start diving deep, now, so if we need to pull the trigger in Q1 2016, we're ready to go.

Maybe we split KSU into West KSU and East KSU, field two dominant Football teams, collect twice the fans(duh, twice the schools), then sell that as a product to the Big12.

Maybe we could get our rivals TX to do it as well?  Two more teams, both would definitely be immediately competitive and viable in the strongest conference in the nation.

Thoughts?

Maybe Bill could coach up East KSU and Sean could have West?

Need better names than just East and West.  Something like Walker KSU and Texas Ranger KSU.

I know you're being glib, but of every university we're looking at, CSU is probably the most Big 12 like today regarding academics, enrollments, etc.

That will be a very beautiful on campus stadium when it's done.

Moby Arena is recently renovated and moderately attractive:

Nippert is actually going to be very attractive and cool when it's done.  Yeah, it's going to seat about 40k, but for larger games, if there's need, they can be moved to Paul Brown stadium.  They've done that for OU in the past and had about 60k.

http://www.gobearcats.com/nippert/home.html

They want to renovate the on campus basketball arena as well.

Enrollment is over 22k, and both CSU and Cincy are rated more highly, academically, than we are.

They're also looking at dumping $75 million into Fifth Third.

If we're ultimately stuck, the difference between CSU, Cincy, and UCF, honestly, between any other candidates pretty insurmountable when you look at everything.  UCF may be screwed because adding a team from Florida may be too much.
