Notre Dame's hand is going to be forced not matter what because if they stay in the Big East, their non-revenue sports are going to make absolutely no money

what's wrong with this picture?

(sigh) I'll explain.

Right now, all of the non-football members of the Big East get a TV cut for basketball.  I think it's around 50% of what the football guys get.  Notre Dame's total TV revenue is their NBC contract plus the Big East money.

Should the Big East lose all of their football money, but ND chooses to stay in the Big East for everything other than football, they're taking yet another hit and will ultimately make less than we do on TV revenue every year.

Make sense now?

And, yes, I realize I should have been more clear.

I guess it is now clear that you think basketball is a non revenue sport.

I can go back and modify the original post to be more clear, but I prefer to be lazy and not do that.

Why not the Big 12 with 3rd tier network rights?  Thought the big 10 has a open invitation to ND.  Both seem like better options than the ACC.

I believe the ACC is more lenient with Tier 3 distribution.  It also keeps ND in the East Coast markets.

I agree with what you are saying, but I think it's a crap shoot as to where they may end up.

Not happy he's selling us short.  It's been carrying on for far longer than the short period of time around Sherron killed the kid.

Another thing to consider when it comes to Missouri...

They don't have a systems president yet.  Deaton has a boss.  That boss is interim right now.  The guy rumored for the gig, Thomas Hoenig, is got his MA and PhD from Iowa State.  He's from Iowa and got his bachelor's at Benedictine in Atchison.  He's been the chief at the KC Fed for the last twenty years.

He may have a say in this.  Or they may act before he takes the job.  Who knows.

ACC says no on partial membership for ND (duh).

http://www.dailypress.com/sports/teel-blog/dp-teel-time-acc-commissioner-john-swofford-closes-door-on-partial-notre-dame-membership-20111019,0,4211491.story

nd isn't going to make a decision that impacts even a single game of fball scheduling based on bball and non-revenue sports.

one of the things people also miss when thinking about nd and other big time schools (like texas) is that they don't really care about tv money.  i mean they aren't going to give it away, but it is just meaningless compared to keeping the alums happy and the donations flowing.

Talk about it in The Tigers' Lair

--------

Missouri's next step south could take place as soon as this afternoon.

On Monday, PowerMizzou.com reported that everything was on track for Missouri's move to the Southeastern Conference. That night, the New York Times went even further, calling the move "imminent and inevitable."

AP: Associated Press

Deaton was empowered to look around on Missouri's behalf 16 days ago.
A source with connections to television executives involved in broadcasting college football in multiple BCS conferences has further confirmed what PowerMizzou.com reported earlier in the week. The source said Missouri's move to the SEC was "as done as done can be without the official vote." The source further stated that the vote, as reported earlier in the week by the Times, is not expected to be a hurdle.

The University of Missouri's Board of Curators opened a three-day meeting in Kansas City on Wednesday night. The Board will go into closed executive session at 3:45 today and again at 10 a.m. Friday "for consideration of certain confidential or privileged communications with university counsel, litigation, property, personnel, contract items, and confidential or privileged communications with university auditors, as authorized by law and upon approval by resolution of the board of curators."

Conference realignment or affiliation is not mentioned anywhere on the meeting agenda. But multiple sources have told PowerMizzou.com to expect movement on the issue over the next two days. Warren Erdman, the Chairman of the Board, told the Kansas City Star on Wednesday night: ""I will probably have nothing to say on that until Friday? If there is anything to say then."

Should the Board of Curators take any action, that action would likely be a "conditional withdrawal" from the Big 12 Conference. The timeline for pending acceptance to the SEC is not known, but it was seven days between Texas A&M's withdrawal from the Big 12 and its addition to the SEC.

The major questions which would still remain is when would Mizzou begin play in the SEC?

Two weeks ago, Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas said that Missouri would be a member of the Big 12 in the 2012-13 athletic year, indicating it was too late to switch in time for next year. However, earlier this week, Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the SEC is preparing a 13-team schedule for next year, but is still looking to add a 14th for that season. Long said the deadline to do so is "coming quickly."

Our source with knowledge of the television side of things said that executives are anticipating Missouri to play in the Southeastern Conference next year and that West Virginia would replace the Tigers in the Big 12. BYU and Louisville are also teams that have been mentioned for that spot. It is not out of the question the Big 12 could add all three, as the Kansas City Star reported earlier this week that the league would likely go back to 12 teams if Missouri were to leave.

All indications are that the Tigers indeed are on the way out. Closure could come as soon as Thursday evening.
