Cork Up the Uncorkers
« on: February 18, 2015, 12:48:24 AM »
A group calling themselves uncorkers are pushing for liquor sales in grocery stores and WALMART like stores.  I do not support this.  IMO it will run small mom and pop liquor stores out of business.  Plus we do not need to teach kids that liquor and assorted hooch are groceries.

But yeah, I'm against it.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I'm against it. There is a liquor store within a block of any grocery store. It's not inconvenient. Sure, it's a terrible law, but we've established this terrible law and let people build their livelihoods on a terrible law and now we're gonna pull the rug from under them. This is the kroger people and the hy-vee people setting their dicks on the table.

i'm amazed that people can be against this policy.  truly, people will grasp any straw to avoid change.

This change would actually make it more convenient for people.   That's not the point.   Lots of people are tired of big companies like Kroger and WalMart putting everyone else out of business.  Im one of them.   I'll gladly pay a bit more to keep locally owned businesses afloat.   Im a bit surprised you're pro big business.  :dunno:

Would put my friends out of business.  No more info on what's new or exceptional on the ale front, no more special orders, no more conversation.

The good liquor stores will stay open.  The grocers will also have a huge selection.

I live in Missouri and they sell booze everywhere. Price Chopper, CVS, Quick Trip, everywhere. There are also many successful liquor stores open near my house. Liquor store owners will just have to adapt.

The local beer ppl tell me that this will be the end of a good craft beer selection.  I don't agree for everywhere, but it probably will be for towns that are small yet big enough for a Wal-Mart.

Yeah, you just can't find a good craft beer in places like California where this is already the law.

Did you see my note on small towns?  I mean  sure I will be able to drive to overland park to get it(abt 25min) but in a town that runs on Busch, Coors, and bud light, Wal-Mart will probably grab up all those sales due to price, and  leave the guy next door trying to pay rent without selling much of that.  Good luck in a blue collar town, imo.

I would be fine w this law if they lifted other liquor laws  like letting me order stuff online and have it delivered to me rather than a liquor store(current KS law) and having  to pay them a mark up for doing that.

I wasn't directly referring to you, but I think a  town large enough for a wal mart would have a market for a stand alone liquor store that has craft beer. My local Safeway has a huge selection of craft beer, and the other local chains have decent options. In just about every small town California gas station you have some selection of craft beer. I don't know why that would be significantly different in Kansas.

In smaller towns than that, the grocery stores will likely be approachable enough to take requests. When my mom found out she had a gluten allergy, she just talked to a manager who would stock about whatever she wanted.

Alcohol in the grocery store is nice, mixers/garnishes at the liquor store is even better.

Walmart doesn't run mom and pop out of town. You and me run them out by opting for lower prices and better selection.

Will this make it easier to spend food stamps on alcohol?

The glass is always half full in KSUW's world.

But really, cannot wait to see the look I get when I ask some dipshit at my local Hen House where they keep the EH Taylor Single Barrel.

Which is why good liquor stores will do just fine. Will this law also allow liquor stores to sell non-alcohol items? That would only be fair.
