That's bullshit, wacky. Although as bread mentions, it's good she's putting it out there.

And this belongs in the dating thread.

Wacky, I am proud of you, issues like this I am real about, don't give in on this, I'm serious, this could be a breaker, good or bad.  It's important to get this kind of thing hashed out before the life commitment.  I also think an 85k ultimatum is a little ridiculous IMO, regardless on timescale, for the simple reason, you can not predict your ceiling going forward, too many variables.

Quite honestly, 85k is a shitload of money for someone with a journalism degree in Kansas City. Isn't it?

I think she just wants to know you are serious about a future career track.  If it's really a hard and fast number that would be a weird thing IMO.

Yes, it's an impossible goal. I think he could get there by retirement after 30+ years of inflation, though.

85k is your combined household income goal right? Not just you by yourself? Because if she expects you to get to 85k to provide her dreams, :runaway: :frown:

WC, she does understand that you aren't a lawyer, engineer, doctor, or in finance, right?  Also, she knows how to use the internet to google stuff like salaries and stuff?

If she honestly expects this, maybe you need to get with Ollie Gates and work out some sort of BBQ trade secrets/spy contract side deal in addition to whatevs your new job is.  :dunno:

Yeah. I took something quick so I didn't miss a paycheck and she's pissed I didn't look further into some other opportunities. To be fair, I might regret that too. However, hers is for different reasoning like $, not happiness.

You should still be looking. You should have been looking the whole time you were at your other job, too.

Yeah, I get that. However, I brought up scenarios like "what if that never happens?", "my parents made it through 2 bankruptcy and they're the happiest ppl I know", etc. And it seems less about love to her. It's "I don't think you have enough drive if you don't think you'll get there" and "You've lost your job twice in three years. How does that make me feel about the future?"-fair.

Is all of this new, or has it kind of been out there for awhile? If it's new, I'd pump the brakes on proposing. There just might be some negative consequences.

WC, Money is the number one reason marriages fail.  Def get this crap all figured out and to the point that you both are on the same page(and not just saying that you are, but actually are) before proceeding.

Yeah, I agree. I'm still looking fwiw. A fellow gE'r or two have given me some great leads and I'm even phone interviewing with one of those companies today. I mean, without going all gopo too, the intimacy has been gone too. I know that happens with couples when they've been together for awhile, but this is absurd to me.

Yeah, that doesn't happen after a year or two.  She is probably just freaked out.
