As for Notre Dame, this isn't 1974. Every big-time football program is on national television these days. Notre Dame obviously has a huge fanbase and is more of a hot commodity in realignment because of its status as a traditional football power, but the gap isn't as wide as you would like to believe. Tim Grunhard has talked about the decline of Notre Dame in detail on 810 radio. Their status has really taken a significant hit in the past few years by not being tied to a P5 conference, and certain traditions are being questioned due to growing concerns over the program's relevancy.

Yup. KU fans don't envision themselves elite at all.

Sleeping Giant implies that it was once an awake giant and then took a nap and could then be awakened. Like, Michigan, Texas, Miami, Florida would be sleeping giants. ku is more like a 90 lb accountant who I guess could be a giant if you gave him like a ton of steroids and muscle transplants and stuff
