Have we ever discussed tractor pulls in goEMAW best thread?  #1 took the oldest grandchild to McClouth last night.  He had VIP tickets to pre pull bbq.

I remember Douglas County fair always had a tractor pull and demolition derby growing up.

Fun fact: the tractor pull is the #2 location of conception for children born in Dugco.

My grandma passed in the spring and my mom and her siblings just got there farm land sold.

My uncle kept 4 acres that has a stone house from the 1870's.

Kinda sad but a young family bought the rest and is going to move into their old home and keep it a family farm. They said we were always welcome to visit.

We (may parents) have quite a few ancient houses on our ranch that periodically people will show up and ask to visit. Always let them and enjoy hearing stories they have. Obviously it won’t be long and that won’t happen anymore. Pretty cool. We have an “underground” house type one (like a walkout with no top part) that is just storage for farm garbage and they came and told us about stained glass sky lights and all kinds of fancy stuff it had that you would never know about now. Also tons of railroad cars converted to storage. Used to have a rail line running on our ranch for some reason and my grandfather told me when they shut it down they let them buy rail cars for almost nothing. Again, won’t be long and those will be gone because they are wood paneled. We have several that were turned into storage and had barns or buildings built off of.

There was a “hunting lodge” on our ranch that was pretty well known in the area and was two story. Group of local ranch barons which my great grandfather was a part of would use it for whatever nonesense they got up to. When I grew up and it was abandoned you could still insanely walk to the second story and check stuff out. All furniture, toiletries, etc was still in it. Had an irl outhouse outside of it. My dad said it had a ton of old times guns and crap we had to go get out of it. My parents have some ancient furniture from it still with like massive tables with brass claw feet holding glass balls for legs type stuff. We had a prairie fire and it burned down unfortunately. Wild it survived as long as it did. Was on the junction of “Crooked Creek” and “Big Springs Creek” which connect on our ranch and are both now dry AF.

Also both of those “creeks” used to be full of water when I was growing up and have beaver damns out the ass on them. Pretty sad to see what has happened with the water in SW KS.

Signs of getting old, done being hard headed... no more lugging 5 gal jugs of diesel for my weekend skid steer adventures. No 1 worked Facebook market to get gpa a sweet 40 gal tank and pump.

Pics of our only boxcar and rock wall at the old corral.  SD post reminded me i had not shared those with the rock wall pix.   The loading chute ran alongside the box car.

Great pics, Tom.
I think you've earned the right not to lug around jugs of fuel.

I'm not an agronomist, but the dryland corn in western KS (esp Thomas County) looks pretty bad from the highway.

Spent last week on vacation in western Wisconsin. Corn up there looks rough. It appears to have had too much water. Our corn here in NE KS is looking much better than that. However, Iowa corn along hwy. 20 looks fantastic as always.

Farms in Iowa and southern Illinois always look good. They are very tidy, buildings all painted up, etc

I've always wanted to go to that pull, but haven't made it over there yet. I attended a pull in Menomonie, WI on my vacation. They had a couple of fully modified tractors, one of which caught on fire from what appeared to be a fuel leak. It was burning alcohol. Flames were big, but burned out quick. Everyone was safe and the tractor appeared to have minimal damage. Tires didn't even burn. I myself am a fan of the diesel tractors with big turbos that blow lots of black smoke like you have pictured here Tom.

Local land barrons build a bridge to their hunting retreat but make the state pay for it. 100 years later us hard working KS tax payers had to pay to remove it.

Circle of life.

I believe that is an energy drink that heavily sponsors tractor pulling. I follow outlaw pullers and they are constantly advertising during those pulls.
