Kind of like Santa promising presents and chucking an IOU dowm the chimney. Republicans will be the bad guys for saying no. Who will demand money back if a student gets bad grades or has a big drug party with the loot from Unkie Obama. I prefer a lower tthreshold income limit for getting pell grants or the best student loans, and the have loan forgiveness for good grades and working in certain fields or providing some of your services to the poor like dentistry.

Why?

encouraging both parents to work would seems like it would discourage people from having more kids. So you're throwing money at both sides.

And it's really unfair to couples with no kids (and single people). I'm just not a huge fan of these types of tax plans that don't apply to everyone. If you're worried about the middle class, why not just give the entire middle class a tax break?

I would have no problem if it were actually a tax deduction, but it's a tax credit. Basically the government paying you $3000 per child even if you don't pay taxes. More vote buying.

They should just increase the standard deduction by $2000 per person.
