ya but i still couldn't do it oh well some guys just aren't cut out to be married

I have no clue how people wear rings. They are very annoying

I never wore a ring before my wedding day.  So I got one with a narrow band and like a size too big. I kinda have webbed fingers so the narrow band was absolutely necessary. I couldn't even get the wider bands on my finger because there isn't enough spacing between my finger webbing and my knuckle. Anyway I now can't stand not to have it on. I am constantly playing with it and I have to have my thumb touching my ring finger.

Yes MIR, the constant playing with it is something I did not anticipate, but I like need it now and feel weird if it's not there

This is what I was talking about.

http://www.diamondadvisor.ca/diamond-advice/blue-nile-vs-james-allen/

Quote
One crucial aspect to understanding Blue Nile vs. James Allen is that James Allen does not drop ship their diamonds, as is the practice with Blue Nile.  With the exception of their “Signature Ideal” diamonds (which are in-house stones), Blue Nile carries a “virtual” inventory which is simply a large list of diamonds available at third-party diamond providers.  When a diamond is ordered, it is packaged according to Blue Nile standards and sent directly to you from where it resided.  From a business point of view, this is a great practice as Blue Nile is able to access a larger inventory without the associated overhead of storing loose diamonds (cost savings are theoretically passed on to the customer).   The downside to this practice (from a customer point of view), is that diamonds are not available in-house and thus not able to be compared by a trained gemologist.

All the diamonds within James Allen’s inventory are exclusively for sale by James Allen.  What this means is that an on-site gemologist can physically select the diamonds you are interested in, personally examine them, and provide you a recommendation on which diamond to select.  This is simply something that is not possible at Blue Nile.  In addition to this, and though not publicised on the site, ASET images (up to 3) and IdealScope images are available on requested from James Allen to provide you better insight into how a diamond performs and which is best.  When dealing with very similar diamonds, these additional images can help you know exactly what you are buying and how it will perform, in turn helping you get a fair value for that diamond.

So you take a little more risk with bluenile. James Allen is a bigger company than I thought. I kinda assumed they were small because every time you call, a human being picks up the phone. No automated message. I was trying to select a closely matching pair of diamonds for earrings, and the guy just pulled them out and walked me through it, told me which ones to pair and why. The whole process was awesome.

I called the phone number to get advice from somebody who had the diamonds sitting in front of them. So yeah.

Seems like some girls might think you are kind of cheap mail ordering a diamond but hey whatever.  Maybe she respects the frugality somewhat

Went well. I've got an idea of what she's looking for now. I'm probably shooting for this summer. After her brothers wedding.

Nah. She knows my price range. We can definitely make it work for the kind of cut she wants.

Wacky when I was doing ring shopping the only buzzword I remembered was table weight.  I guess a lot of times diamonds are expensive as hell because they are many karats but they don't look very big because they are deep.  Table weight is like, the part of the diamond you can actually see.

Also, no less than 1 karat.  If you can't afford 1 karat then save up til you can.  Less than a karat will look really, really tiny.

Does she want side stones or a solitaire?  And what is her preferred cut?

She's still trying to establish these questions. Thanks for your insight. We're heading to my friends shop this weekend to get a better understanding about all of this.

Tell her to stop caring so much about what ring she gets.  Tell her the real diamond is WackyCat08 and that should be enough.

I would not live and die by the 1 karat or nothing position. Going in debt for a ring is stupid and based upon everything you have shared on gE, you would have to go in debt to buy a 1 karat diamond.

If you indicate you are looking for a karat or more, they are not going to show you less than a karat. If you want a significant discount, ask to see stones just under a karat. If buying earrings, ask to see stones just under a half karat. Maybe your lady friend will think you are being cheap. Maybe you are? Maybe I am.
Dick, they sell a shitload of stones under a karat. (How do you think non-KSU grads ever marry?)

Mine as well, size 5.  .81k allowed me to get an amazing quality diamond.  Overhear her friends all the time about the quality of the diamond.  IMO, they awe over the sparkly-ness more than size.

Found one last Saturday before the Baylor game. Discount from a another emaw is around 30%, but these damn girls expand the demand on the bands. :-( They want it to look bigger. Can't complain tho. 5k for this bad boy, but I could get it for 3. Thanks cat friend.
