Discuss pro tips in here. I'm ring shopping this Saturday to get a feel for what she likes. I plan on getting engaged around July. Also, @mrsgooch, great idea in the cc thread. Maybe a mod can post those posts in here.

get an idea for what cut she wants and how much you want to spend then buy the diamond online at a place like blue nile or whatever. read up a little about cut, color, clarity, etc. don't get something that is small and perfect. get something a little bigger that has a small flaw or whatever. get an idea for bands too. treat the two separately. you can always buy both online and have a jeweler put them together for you.

Are you going to get matching rings? (Hers & Yours) Just something to think about when you are looking to see what is available.

Also think about the engagement ring and the wedding band. Is the wedding band going to be a simple band next to the engagement ring or a wrap around? Or does she want one of those wedding bands that has tiny diamonds encrusted into the band?

Even if you aren't buying the wedding band part now, you need to think about how the engagement ring will go with the wedding band she wants (if she even wants a separate wedding band).

I did very well buying the engagement ring on Blue Nile. You can also sign up for Fatwallet Fat Cash and get 2% cash back. Then we found a beautiful platinum wedding band that went perfect with it on markdown at a local jeweler.

Also, as much as the 4 c's are important, make sure the ring has real sparkle. I've seen some very nice and very large settings that just don't sparkle like my wife's. She gets tons of compliments because of it.

I'm liking the sound of this online ring shopping deal. However, I have a good friend from K-State who travels with us to some of the away games and she runs a zales store in Independence and thinks she can hook me up. I just need to know what i'm looking for, so i'm letting Ms. Wacky take me to some stores this weekend.

I am not saying you should worry too much about that stuff because you can probably find a wedding band (for you and her) later that will go with the ring just fine; just something to think about when you are paying attention to the rings she likes.

I personally only have 1 ring.

or just give her a tiny walmart ring. If she doesn't throw it in your face and scream "I deserve better" she's the one. Then you return it and buy her a nice one.

If anything, her squawk blood is thinning out. We watched the whole K-State game over KU last night and she was totally fine with it.
