Home winning record streak
« on: January 01, 2015, 12:17:33 PM »
KSU used to make a big deal of this.  I thought they used to claim it was a record, but maybe I'm misremembering.

Quote
In 2008-09, the Wildcats men's basketball team secured their 63rd straight home winning season with their win over North Dakota State on Jan. 2.

5-2 at the fOOD in the non-con, with 9 conference home games and possibly the NIT.  Can the streak reach 69?

If Georgia and Texas Southern are the types of teams that are walking out of Bramlage with wins these days, then I doubt we go 4-5 at home during conference play.

That alone should get oscar fired. He's not bad, but historically bad.

I also recall us claiming this as a record and if oscar snaps that streak he should be canned immediately.

Currie is amazing at money but terrible at coaches and hiring coaches.

How many coaches does he get to hire before he too is canned? Also, would he leave before getting fired cuz he's a super douche bitch (look at that face) if he heard footsteps?

It's not up to him, unless he's saved for rainy years.

We've long proposed he be co-AD in charge of behind-the-scenes bookkeeping, while almost anyone else be co-AD in charge of human interaction and other matters.

Can I get a list of other terrible coaches he has hired?  To date, he hired oscar, the women's basketball coach, the men's golf coach, the women's soccer coach, the women's tennis coach and the cross country coach (holy crap, has he been busy).

All of these coaches, with the exception of oscar, just wrapped up their first year or will have their first year this season.  At this point can we really say he is terrible at hiring coaches?

Never thought it was a big deal.  What it really meant was Wooldy managed to schedule a bunch of poofs for pre-conference home games.

If oscar fails to keep this one going than he should be gone. Not that it is something so great, but that it is probably the most pud streak to keep alive in college basketball. That plus the pride tucks glean from it make it the perfect talking point.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Does anyone have an Asbury/Wooldridge-era media guide in which this thing was promoted?

The team has also posted a winning record at home every year since 1946.

From wikipedia. I'm sure it's in the current media guide somewhere.

It's not.  They went away from it once we started making ncaa tournaments and stuff.  But it's not just that the streak exists that I want to see; we already know that.  I remember KSU promoting it as best ever or best active streak.  That always seemed absurd to me, like how did bluebloods ever have a losing record at home for a season?

At least you saved me the trouble. I was about to look through the printed version. Funny, the marketing worked. I remember teenage me eating it up as a real point of pride. I do remember it used to be pushed hard. That and the Sporting News' top 25 programs of all-time ranking.

Yep.  I remember having a printed-off schedule, probably from the computer lab, and highlighting the home games to keep tabs on those specific W's & L's, because extending that streak was the best we could aspire to at the time.

For instance KU went 8-18 in 1972-73. They went 7-7 at home. Strike that loser program off the list!

And did K-State claim it as the longest? Kentucky has to have it beat barring some probationary wins vacated. In their lone losing season since 1926 (13-19 in 1988-89) they still had a winning record at home.

I thought it was more than just stating the streak and hoping nobody really thought about how losery that is, and that there was some declaration of it being the best/longest/something.

Where the eff is the gE intern anyway?

There was definitely this. It's funny, because on it's face it sounds pretty great, but when you realize how hard it is, especially in modern ncaabb, to have a winning record at home, it's very .

Yes, the A.D. used to claim it was the longest. Then someone realized Kentucky has a longer streak.  :Poke:
