Not a big fan of Sam, think he went a little too far.

But all we get from the left on the state level is . . . tax more, higher fees and spend more.

Somebody really should try running on setting taxes at a reasonable level required to meet state obligations.

That's what Sam's doing, but he's only halfway there. Now we need to reduce our state obligations.

Yeah, that 6% tax that he lowered to 4% was just devastating to us all. Now we just need to get rid of some of those stupid schools to lower our state obligations to a level that we can afford.

Actually, consolidating some rural school districts would be a good idea, as has been discussed at length in another thread. I don't think Brownback will do it, though. Rural school consolidation seems to be a "third rail" of Kansas politics.

Rural kids have long commutes to their mailboxes and nextdoor neighbors, too, relatively speaking. Farmland is big and sparsely populated. That's part of rural living. We don't need three or four different school districts in some of these western counties.

That's certainly the easier approach. The problem is that we're also paying for their healthcare, and they're developing diabetes in their 30s because they seem to drink more soda than water.
