Comic Books: I never got the appeal.
« on: December 16, 2014, 09:21:00 AM »
This isn't a bash on comic books thread. I'm generally interested in how they are so popular, even with advances in technology. Maybe it's because I was never introduced to them as a young kid, but a I said in the title, I've never really gotten the appeal. I read a couple in jr. high probably and was very meh on them.

What gives with these things?

Edit to add: Didn't see a thread on this. Mods merge if appropriate.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I wouldn't say they are "so popular". They are a niche market. The movies are a different story.

still popular would have probably been a better word.

Baseball cards were my comic books. I guess I understand the appeal but it wasn't for me.

I loved comic books as a kid.  I did not collect them.  Fiction/sci-fi/fantasy stimulates your imagination or at least it did mine.  I used to think up my own storylines when I was little.  Eventually regular books overtook them completely.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

Speaking of that, I still have a crap ton of cards in a closet and really have no use for them.  Have any of you guys had any luck selling them for any cash?  Best way to do it (eBay, card shop, etc.)?  They are mostly late 80's and early 90's cards.  I also have a few older comic books that are also collecting dust in the same closet.

Man, I used to dream of the day when I would be able to strike it rich after cashing in on all my cards.

Yeah, me too.  Overall, I don't think that they are worth crap now though.  :frown:

$1,000 seemed like quite the amount to 7-year-old nicname

I wish I still had a couple of the Billy Ripken fuckface cards.  Those were awesome.

late 80s early 90s baseball cards were way over produced and are essentially worthless. Our dad's all were convinced we'd be paying for college with them and were wrong.

So you are saying I should use them for fire starters in my outdoor fireplace?

No, just keep them and enjoy them. They are worth more to you than they are to a buyer
