Mauled in Maui; Pitt ADV
« on: November 26, 2014, 10:29:13 PM »

Much of the bad from this game has already been discussed. Less than 5 minutes into this game the Cats led 10-3 and it was all down hill from there. K-State put together their 2nd offensive performance at under .90 PPP and 35% or worse eFG% in just 6 days. The Cats have had only 3 games with worse efficiencies since oscar has been here and these are the worst 2 shooting games in the oscar era.

To go with that poor offense, K-State continued extremely poor 2nd half defense, which was a problem in every game in Hawaii. K-State's defense gave up 1.41 PPP in the 2nd half tonight and that's after 1.31 PPP vs Arizona and an awful 1.63 PPP in the win over Purdue. As the chart below shows, there wasn't much of anything good about K-State's 2nd half defense during this trip to the islands.

Once again, oscar's team is in an early season hole and they will head back to Manhattan with tons of work to do to get this season going back into the right direction. I don't believe the two worst losses this week will be as bad as last year's losses to Charlotte and Northern Colorado, but this is pretty much oscar's team with his players and there isn't any excuse for losing at Long Beach State or getting blown out by Pittsburg. The Cats still have some decent OOC games left against Tennessee, aTm, and Georgia, and to put themselves into any sort of solid position going into Big 12 play we need to win all three, baring some sort of miracle run through conference play. This has been an extremely disappointing week of K-State basketball.

That's a good one. I had no creative energy after that mess.

The old cliche about good defense always being there for you seems to be true about shitty defense, too.

I posted a bunch a couple of years ago about how I expected oscar to get worse and worse until we completely sucked, just like his time at Illinois.  So while I really dislike sucking complete ass at basketball, it does make me look very, very smart.  This is exactly what Jesus meant when he talked about Yin and Yang.

No.  Since I'm here anyway, I'd prefer the cats were good at basketball so people were more inclined to post about it.  I'm bb first.  bb only really.  I already know oscar is a big loser no matter what he does with the cats.  It just makes me dislike him more that he's robbing me of college hoops bbsing oppies.

I also think they'll be fine again this year just like they were last year.  I think he's going to be royally mumped when Gip and Foster are gone.  It's probably going to be pretty rough ridin' ugly unless he stumbles across another Foster.  He'll never recruit a Gip for himself or at least he never has.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

I wonder why?  He brags all the time about how much time he spends recruiting.

I forgot he recruited Shaun Pruitt at Illinois.  When he was a senior (and the best player on the team
for better or worse) was the season oscar set the record for most losses in a season at Illinois.  I think maybe he is psychologically scarred by that.  He wants jump shooting big men, not back to the basket post players that can score on the block.  The only other one that would qualify would be Myers Leonard and the only season he really played was the season oscar got fired after.

Despite that Gip has been huge for him, but there isn't one on the roster like him after he's gone.  Then it will be a lot more like it was at Illinois.  Bad news.

I'll still be BBSing about K-State basketball no matter what. I've done it plenty before and I'll do it again if I have to.

The defense has to get fixed first. I know the offense was terrible last night, but we aren't going to beat any decent teams with the 2nd half defense we had in Maui. My fear with this team is that they'll play offense first and we'll be forced to shoot well to have a shot. Games like yesterday or Long Beach when we don't we won't have a chance.

if Hurt and Bolden are the best he can do, then we're mumped.  our guards will get really good at rebounding though, so silver lining.

Hurt's drifting out to the three-point line and waving his hand whilst players are driving to the basket is more than a little maddening.

I haven't been that pissed watching a game since the Xavier ass whooping with Frank. Mom says they had to be tired tho from playing so hard against Arizona. So there's that. #fanningtuckhousehold

Our legs went out. It was painfully obvious, I think I don't like Jimmy Price (S&C) I think he isn't good enough. Also eff oscar for this abortion of a schedule. He always talks about how important it is and just falls on his face this year.

oscar's "all long guards" style can win games if he'd rough ridin' coach them

and that's what is really weird because basketball is a pretty simple game.  there's just a shitload of shitty coaches out there.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

The only thing that we have effectively implemented is our zone offense, looks amazing tho. oscar having so many 4 on 4 practices has killed our man to man defense, rotations are out of whack.

Also it takes oscar a month for our man to man offense to become effective/look good. Sometimes I hate motion offenses, but it is the right way for players to learn the game. (oscar implements at a snails pace, it is what it is)

Will was so much better at operating in the motion than Nigel, Jevon or Edwards at this point. But they all are more skilled and athletic. Jevon has done a good job of screening for other players in Maui. Nigel and Edwards just blow chunks right now at team ball.

It is on oscar, it is coaching mistakes and a terrible schedule. But it is fixable in the short term.

Certainly is fixable.  oscar can start his foundation for success with jevon's great screening ability.

The Maui tournament is how I imagined our defense would with oscar's idiotic defensive rotation schedule. I don't know how we were decent at defense then last two years.

And I said it a lot, but goddam why did he continue to set ball screens without any adjustment to the traps, and how could he not put someone into position to receive a pass from Gip when he got doubled. I mean crap, he did NOTHING.

The inability to take advantage of the gip doubles was the most frustrating thing for me.  That should have been pretty easy to do.
