So we drove from North Carolina Wednesday. The highways in WV are very nice and kept up pretty well. However people do not drive all that great. Apparently 10 over is not an option nor is the speed limit. Jacked up trucks have no issue going 95 in a 70 up on your bumper, literally a few feet off your ass. I can see why, not many police on the highway.
We arrived to hotel M here in Morgantown around 730 pm Wednesday. To find the area ver unappealing. Got our hotel room to only find mold on the base boards, a dirty bathroom, smelt like sex and cigarettes along with a ac/heater which did not work. Wife decided to Start calling other hotels. We found a spot at the holiday inn in uniontown pa. Walked out the door of hotel m to find a used bindle of heroin (I'm not kidding) these are what we call in my profession blow and go hotels, pay by the hour options lol. The hotel front desk was very nice and manager did not charge us for the cancellation. We headed up to pa to find holiday inn is wonderful. I would recommend it for those coming in a few years. However the rooms are a bit warm and the a/c is off in the winter time.
Game day- we decided to head into Morgantown around 4 on Thursday. Met up with a couple Kstate fans and went to Fat daddy's. The atmosphere was fun but wife and I don't drink (she's pregnant) so the couple we were with said let's go eat at fat Chico or something like that. It was a chipotle type restaurant. A must eat if you were to go back to Morgantown. Very good food and the staff was skater type very laid back. They were great told us the best way to get to the game and also free parking.
We started to walk to the Prt and came across a group of college kids. Very nice they wanted to see how our trip was going. Another group actually walked with us to the Prt and told us some great places to go . Although while waiting in line one college kid was drinking a beer and flipping us off. Kid ran his mouth a bit but his friends apologized for him. The prt ride was fun. WE crammed about 20 people in there.
A few of the WV fans told us where we needed to head and what the best gate was. Got into the stadium. At first I was impressed. However stadium is a little out dated and need some up grades. It was better than pre west stadium BSFS. Found our seats in the south end zone in the front row which is really row 32. Sat down by ourselves but behind us was a game warden in west Virginia. Very very nice guy. Asked how our trip was and we shot the crap for a bit. He said being a good host is very important to them. He assured us the bad name they have bothers them. Went on to say most of the west Virginia natives are very good people, it's the Yankees from pa and other places who come into town to act a fool. He actually went to sit with some friends and gave us his seats with the cushion and chair backs.
Game started and we began to win. Some drunk college kids came and sat in front of us. Any chance they got to yell and flip off Willie they took. They did turn and apologize in advance. Funny guys talked a little friendly trash talk.the stadium was not very packed. Probably about 1/2 of its capacity maybe more. Stadium got loud in the 4th when they scored to go down by 6. Besides that not overly impressed. I think this is where Thursday night killed it. Most students left at halftime. An older gentlemen about 40 Sat 4 rows back to my right. Very drunk and very outspoken. Proceeded to make comments in my direction and flipped us off at any chance. Mostly ignored him but did laugh when he would make some stupid comments .
Game was over and we had nice conversations with WV fans on the way back downtown.A few were impressed about how K-State travels. Said our fans were very nice. I was happy to see all of the K-State fans being good sports throughout the day. One Wv fan told us to be careful getting home. Said college kids can be unruly downtown to opposing fans. I didn't think much of this since most were so nice to us.
All and all the Morgantown experience was fun. I'm glad we came. I don't know if we will make the trip in 2016 if it's a November game. September or October we decided we will definitely come back. had a great time! As a whole the WVU fan base was awesome and I told them Manhattan is a must for gameday.most said they were possibly going to try and make the trip next season.
For 2016 if you guys are going to make a trip, WV is a great place to come. Hopefully it will be a Saturday and the stadium will be rocking.
