A beacon called the men and women of the plains. A glorious chandelier of light and truth hung in the octagonal cathedral of hoops. They came from Wamego and Westmoreland, Holton and Horton, Emporia and Ellsworth, Alma and Andover. They came to cheer on their cats and they were rewarded with one for the ages.
The doors of glass welcomed with open arms those that sought refuge from the cold, dark night. But fingers and toes were not the only things warmed tonight. Hearts were filled with joy—and perhaps even a bit of lust—for these Wildcats.
Another season of Bruceketball is upon us!
ALL HAIL oscar! LONG LIVE THE KING!Peggy Po’s? I GOT YOUR PEGGY PO'S!OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!! HAHHAHHAHAA!?https://vine.co/v/O5O23XurHgw?https://vine.co/v/O5eq2WLE7b1?Not Nick Lachey, but still the offense was on fire! After the first half, our defense finally broke the game open with transition beating their zone down the floor, some well timed threes and some solid team shooting from the line.
HOL UP, WE DEM BOYZ HOL UP-HOL UP-HOL UP WE MAKIN’ NOISE the new sound system was so loud that that sub buzzer could barely be heard. The new screen was great. The upper ring took some getting used to as it was very high up and at a severe angle, but it provided score updates and team stats which was a vast improvement. 4/6 video boards throughout the rest of the arena were advertisements, but the boards behind the basket were nice. The 35 second clock and even the possession arrows were upgraded. Lastly, the halftime show was maybe the best I’ve ever seen. A guy came out to play bucket drums and then halfway through his performance the entire KSU drumlins came out with the Classy Cats and everyone killed it. It was incredible. Even rick daris had to admit that it was better than the frisbee dog.?
_______…..FOR THREE! 10-18! 55%! Nigel! Marcus! Big Meat! The aptly named Tre!
?
Jevon Thomas 4-6 FT 5:1 A/TO 3 STL 8 PTSTunnel dance was still in play and Bolden looks to be carrying the JO/Diaz torch of lanky awkward guy with some surprising dance moves.
Big Meat might be my favorite newcomer. He is so fun to watch. He takes his glasses off for the first free throw, then puts them back on for the second shot. He also almost punched a thunderbird after a scrum for the ball. No word yet on whether he will keep his shades on for the front end of a one-and-one. He hit a really nice little baseline J and looks like he can help Gip in the post offensively.
E is reppin’ Highland Park at all times. It is impossible to over state how amazing the Evan Beucler ticket/stat sheet picture was.
IN YOUR FACE PHOG.NET! Foster put up a super efficient 13 points in 19 minutes.
ON GUARD, TOUCHE Nigel looked like he can carry the load at PG. It was a hot shooting night as he hit 4/6 from 3, but he also got to the line and Nigel played his typically solid, if unremarkable, D. Also had 5 AST/0 TO. Overall the PG play was by far the biggest concern for me coming in and it looked solid.
?We were missing 40+ minutes of talent and won by 30. Sure it was ugly and there were some nasty lineups, but there are a lot of nice pieces here. This team will miss DJamer, but I am less worried than I thought I’d be about his absence.
Nancy Neg’sNo Gip, Big Dip Besides Gip our bigs don’t board or play much D. We allowed 15 offensive rebounds and they had too many easy buckets particularly in the first half. Bolden’s block was amazing, but that little Hickory High reject doesn’t even matter. Hurt does not look like a rim protector and Nino/Gip/Wes will struggle to clean up dribble drives. Bolden is a wild card, but he still has made some bad mistakes on defense, is still rail thin and is not a good rebounder.
The first half.Courtside Snub I was extremely excited for the new free concessions, fountain drinks and cash bar that just opened up in a re-purposed utility room in the tunnel. I got there early and was going to grab a drink and a quick plate of nachos. Unfortunately, the new Club room is only available to those with court side seats and still not available for the floor seats. I thought I had access and got mushed at the door. So close, yet so far away.
UMKC looks a bit scary now.
No Sean Frye. The end of an era.
